We are focused on responsible ownership while enjoying all of the capabilities that our dogs possess. Follow our journey to learn about the exciting things our group is up to plus learn about all of the opportunities you have with your dog! On our website and our social media, we will showcase competitions, classes, shows, games, meetings, and fun facts that you and your dog can participate in as

well as pet of the month, breed facts, and other fun educational information! The kennel club is open to all dogs and all owners in all walks of life: Purebred, mixed breed, unknown breed(s), advanced handlers, beginners, future dog owners.

Thinking of signing up for training classes but not sure where to start?
Start with Novice Obedience! This is a great class for both pet and novice obedience competitors. This class is adaptive to those who join and will cover/refresh skills including sit, heel, down, stay, and stand. This is great for a dog who has never done training before or someone interested in preparing to compete in Obedience competition.

We are offering a once a week, 6-week course at Durham Community Park starting September 17th at 5:30 P.M.

Class is $120 for the whole 6-week course plus we will be offering a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test to the dogs who participate in the class.

We'll see you tonight for our monthly meeting at 6:30pm

Please note due to roadwork outside the fairgrounds, please enter through gate 8 (the "cow" off E. Gridley). Please do not park on the grass.

We want to hear from YOU! Our club may be small, but we have big ambitions, and we want to make our upcoming conformation show THE show everyone looks forward to attending!
Our show takes place Halloween weekend with a fun Halloween/Day of the Dead theme, and we'd love your ideas.

What would you like to see at the show?
What non-conformation activities would you enjoy for you or your dog?
Costume contests? Performance title opportunities? Photo booths? Trick-or-treating for dogs? Vendor experiences? Games? Educational demonstrations? Food? Something completely unique?
Is there anything you or your club could offer to make this event even more exciting?

If you're interested in becoming a member, we ask prospective members to attend our monthly meetings before applying. It's a great opportunity to get to know our members, learn about what we do, and see if our club is the right fit for you. We offer great resources, canine education, volunteer opportunities, and discounts on our events and classes to members!

SAVE THE DATE!

The Butte County Kennel Club Annual Dog Show is coming to the Butte County Fairgrounds in Gridley, California on October 31 🎃 & November 1, 2026💀!

Those who attended our Performance Pawlooza this spring know that we may be a small club, but we like to think BIG! We're working hard to create a weekend filled with opportunities for dogs and handlers to earn awards, try new activities, learn new skills, and most importantly, have fun.

We're planning much more than a conformation show. While several exciting activities and performance events are still awaiting final approval, our goal is to create the ultimate Halloween & Día de los Mu***os dog event for exhibitors, spectators, and canine companions alike.

Have an idea that would make this show even more fun? 💡 We'd love to hear it! Drop your suggestions in the comments and help us make this year's event one to remember.

Dog Safety Starts with Education 🐾

Dog bites and scratches can cause serious injuries and can have lasting consequences for both the child and the dog involved.

One of the most important things parents can do is teach children how to interact safely and respectfully with dogs. This applies not only to your own pets, but also to dogs belonging to friends, family members, and strangers in public.

Some important lessons to teach include:

• Always ask the owner for permission before approaching or petting a dog.
• Understand that not every dog wants to be touched, even if it looks friendly.
• Never disturb a dog that is eating, sleeping, caring for puppies, or resting in its crate or bed.
• Do not approach or distract working or service dogs.
• Learn to recognize signs that a dog wants space, such as moving away, hiding, growling, showing the whites of its eyes, tucking its tail, or licking its lips repeatedly.
• Avoid pulling ears, tails, fur, or grabbing onto dogs.
• Never put your face close to a dog's face.
• Do not climb on, ride, or sit on dogs.
• Use gentle touches and calm voices around animals.

Teaching children to respect a dog's boundaries helps create safer interactions, prevents injuries, and supports the well-being of both children and dogs. Responsible dog safety education benefits everyone. 🐶❤️👧👦
