Some familiar faces, Remy was formerly Navy, and Wrigley was formerly Willis! They are about 9 months now!

Chewing is so much more than just a fun activity for puppies. It fulfills a deep biological need during teething while also supporting emotional regulation and social learning. The act of chewing releases calming neurotransmitters in the brain, helping puppies self-soothe, decompress, and settle naturally.
Using high-value enrichment items like marrow bones also gives us the opportunity to practice important social skills early. *learning to share space around valuable resources. *building trust with humans handling their treasures. *reducing tension, guarding behaviors, growling, or barking *creating positive associations with people approaching while they chew
Through guided exposure and supervision, the puppies learn that humans coming near their bone means safety, not loss.

Potty training starts with understanding what puppies are physically capable of at each age.
At 8-10 weeks old, most puppies can only hold their potty for about 2-3 hours during the day and often less when they’re awake and active. Playing, eating, excitement, and drinking water all make them need to go much sooner. At this age, they truly don’t have full bladder control yet, which is why frequent trips outside are so important.
By 10-12 weeks old, many puppies can begin holding it closer to 3-4 hours during calm periods, but they still need very regular potty breaks throughout the day.
Even then expecting them to “tell you” every time is unrealistic management and routine still help prevent accidents and build confidence.
Success comes from preventing accidents, not correcting them afterward.
The more often puppies are brought outside successfully, the faster they learn where potty belongs. Every successful potty trip helps.

We’ve been working on manding — teaching puppies how to politely and confidently ask for what they want.
This is a behavior a puppy offers to communicate with humans in order to receive something they want, like attention, food, play, affection, or interaction. Instead of jumping, barking, or becoming frustrated, puppies learn that calm, thoughtful communication works.
When a puppy sits for attention, makes eye contact, approaches calmly, or offers a behavior to ask for interaction, they are practicing manding. They learn that humans are safe, responsive, and rewarding to engage with.
These tiny moments may not seem like much, but they help create puppies who grow into thoughtful, connected, and emotionally balanced dogs who know how to communicate with their people in healthy ways.
