Catching 18 birds in an aviary full of perching is no easy task!! 🤣

Luckily we had a bird keeper on hand!! After lots of missed catches and one escapee from the box (both my fault 😳), we managed to safely transfer all the birds indoors for the winter 🤗❄️

It’s been a busy few weeks as we prepare for winter!! ❄️ Jamie has been building a new indoor cage for our flock of Lovebirds! 🦜

During the summer, our lovebirds live outdoors in an aviary. Due to the cold, harsh weather we expect to see in the winter, we bring the birds indoors so we can keep a closer eye on their health 🩺 As our flock size has increased, it meant that they needed a better indoor space and they are loving it so far! 💗

Bringing the birds inside provides an excellent opportunity for health checks, ring checks and separating out pairs for breeding. More to come on this in another post!! 🤗

Luckily all of our pets have been absolutely fine with our extra precautionary measures this year 🫶🏻

It has been business as usual as demonstrated perfectly by our super cute Whiskey 💁🏼‍♀️

He has recently had a new log added to his house and he’s still working out whether it fits his vibe 🤣

🌟 CARE 🌟 is one of this year’s Guinea Pig Awareness Week themes!

Regular grooming is important to keep piggy coats smooth and untangled 💈 it’s a good way to check for any abnormal hair loss and also very therapeutic on both sides 💁🏼‍♀️

We weigh our piggies to ensure they maintain a steady, healthy weight! We appreciate their different shapes and sizes so sometimes not everyone fits into the ‘ideal’ weight bracket. As long as there are no sudden drastic changes and they are healthy, we are happy ✨

Everyone has a manicure every 4-6 weeks to keep nails at an ideal length 💅🏼 sometimes they enjoy it, sometimes it’s as though the world is ending 🤣

General body checks are important to identify early signs of unwanted lumps and bumps. These checks can be disguised as guinea pig cuddles and we take any excuse for those 🤩

🌟 Guinea Pig Awareness Week 🌟

Ensuring our piggies are 👑 COMFORTABLE 👑 is crucial! We do this by providing the appropriate housing and diet 🥰

Although our pigs live indoors, they have a large space to roam around and popcorn 🐹 along with outdoor space on the grass during summer ☀️

A good diet is essential! We feed our pigs Burgess Excel nuggets as they are packed full of Vitamin C 💪🏼 they get fresh veggies and leafy greens daily to give them their much-needed nutrients 🥬

Good quality hay should be available at all times as it provides fibre, one of the most important nutrients and great for dental and digestive health 😁

We had two new piggies join us in the cabin this week; Dixie and Dusty 😍

These two gorgeous boys came for a pamper night! They had a haircut and then freshened up in the bath 🛁 it looks like I created two new guinea pigs with all of their spare fur 🤣🐹

This week we said goodbye to the warm summer sun and the last of Piggies time on the grass for this year ☀️

We find anything below 15 degrees (particularly when cloudy) is a bit chilly for our Guinea Pigs and they don’t enjoy being outside 🥶

They have an indoor run to enjoy over the winter and lots and lots of hay and goodies to keep them happy 😋
