Unfortunately, after the recent incident, the volunteers of this group have decided to go our separate ways due to differences in how we would like to move forward.

We accomplished a lot together and helped many cats along the way (over 200!), but from this point on we will each be operating separately under new pages/groups. The new pages will be listed below so you can continue following and reach out for assistance when needed.
- Feral Cats (FB Group)
- Cheney Cat Connection

This page will remain up for 7 days so people have time to see this announcement. After that, the page will be deleted.

While this outcome is unfortunate, we wish each other nothing but the best moving forward. We all share the same passion for helping cats, but it is time for us to continue that work separately.

Yesterday, an incident occurred involving a friendly cat that was trapped and spayed through our TNR program. We want to address the situation directly and clarify what happened.

At the time the cat was trapped, we were told the cat had been abandoned and was actively in heat. Based on that information, the decision was made to move forward with spay surgery in order to prevent more kittens from being born into the community. It has since been confirmed that this cat does in fact have a home, and she has now been safely reunited with her family.

As part of our normal TNR process, cats are held for approximately 24 hours after surgery to safely recover from anesthesia before being returned. However, when a friendly cat’s owner comes forward, our policy is to reunite that cat with its family. In this case, that did not happen in the way it should have, and we acknowledge that mistake.

We also want to address comments and messages that were made from this page by a volunteer while emotions were high. Those statements do not reflect the policies or values of Cheney Feral Cats Alliance. We sincerely apologize for the negative comments, messages, and interactions that occurred during this situation. We understand how upsetting they were, and we take full responsibility for the way this situation was handled publicly.

We do not require payment for TNR services. We operate entirely on donations, our mission has always been to reduce the community cat population through humane spay and neuter efforts.

This entire situation was a misunderstanding, not an attempt to take or displace someone’s pet. Rescue work can be emotionally exhausting, and our volunteers care deeply about animals and preventing suffering. That does not excuse mistakes, but we do want to acknowledge that emotions were high and things became misconstrued very quickly.

Moving forward, we will no longer TNR friendly cats or cats that appear tame in order to avoid situations like this in the future. We understand there were hurt feelings, frustration, and negative perceptions created from this incident, and we sincerely regret that.

Our mission remains the same: to humanely reduce the community cat population, prevent suffering, and help cats in need, never to separate beloved pets from their families. We will learn from this experience and continue working to improve our communication and processes moving forward. 🐾

Every kitten born outside is fighting the odds from the very beginning. 🐾

Studies estimate that only about 1 in 4 kittens born outdoors survive past 6 months of age. Many die from illness, parasites, starvation, weather exposure, predators, or injuries before they ever have the chance to grow up.

This is why TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is so important. Spaying and neutering community cats prevents endless litters of kittens from being born into harsh outdoor conditions where survival rates are so low. TNR helps break the cycle of suffering while also improving the health and stability of outdoor cat colonies.

The before & after photos of this kitten are a reminder of what intervention can do. A kitten who may not have survived outside now has safety, care, food, and a chance at a healthy life. 🩷✨

Every cat fixed matters. Every foster matters. Every donation, transport, trapper, and caretaker matters. Together, we can prevent suffering before it starts and give cats and kittens a better future. 🐱💕

Update on the black and white kitty from Irene Pl. 🖤🤍🐾

He is still recovering safely indoors at Brenda’s and continues to improve every day. He’s tolerating kennel rest very well, eating great, and has really been enjoying looking out the window and watching the squirrels outside. 🐿️☀️

At this point, he will likely remain in recovery for at least few more days or so while we continue monitoring the leg that had the abscesses. We want to make absolutely sure he is able to comfortably walk and heal properly before returning him to his outdoor life.

Despite everything he has been through, he has been calm during recovery. He truly seems to understand that we are helping him. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who has been following his journey and supporting the injured kitties we’ve been helping lately. Your support makes these recoveries possible.

🐾🩷 Kitten Update! 🩷🐾

A lot has happened within the last week, and we are so excited to share an update on these sweet babies!

The 2 older girl kittens had their Nose to Toe appointment at SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. and are officially in the intake process! 🎉 They will be getting fixed soon and will be available for adoption before we know it.

As for the younger group of 8 kittens, they were recently transferred to an amazing foster, thank you, Bethany! 🩷 Bethany has experience caring for kittens and feral mamas, and the kittens (along with both mamas) have been doing great in her care.

We sent Bethany with most of the donated items from our Amazon Wishlist to help provide for the kittens and mamas. She has both mama cats with the kittens because 8 babies is a lot for one mama cat to handle, and they have both been helping care for the litter. 🐱🍼

Once the kittens are old enough to be fixed and separated from their moms, they will also be heading to Spokanimal! Spokanimal will be fixing both mama cats as well once they are done nursing.

And for everyone wondering… of the 8 kittens, we have 4 girls and 4 boys! 💕💙

We truly could not do this without the support of our community. Every donation, share, and kind word helps save lives, and we are beyond grateful for each and every one of you. 🩷🐾

Another concerned caretaker reached out to us asking for advice regarding a cat they had been feeding for quite some time; likely a dumped cat who had been trying to survive outdoors on his own. Recently, they noticed he had developed injuries around his back hips. He was walking with a lowered posture, his hips dropped, and he had a sore at the base of his tail. Naturally, they were very concerned and reached out to us for guidance.

We offered a trap, but thankfully this sweet boy turned out to be friendly enough that his caretaker was able to safely get him into a carrier. We gave her Dr. Laura’s information who graciously took him in for care.

He received his routine neuter, and it was discovered that the injury was actually severe abscessing along his lower back end. Poor guy was likely in a tremendous amount of pain. We are so thankful he was being watched over by someone who noticed the changes and cared enough to step in and help him.

Lately, we have been seeing a large increase in injured cats coming through, many of them likely tom cats fighting over mating during spring season. These fights can lead to severe wounds, abscesses, infections, and unfortunately a lot of suffering when left untreated. This is one of the many reasons why spaying and neutering is so important for community cats. ❤️

A huge shoutout to his amazing caretaker, who is also covering his medical care and recovery so our rescue funds could remain available for other cats in need. He is incredibly lucky to have someone like you looking out for him while he heals.

We are always happy to offer advice, guidance, or help point people in the right direction when it comes to caring for outdoor and community cats. Never hesitate to reach out, sometimes simply asking questions can completely change a cat’s life.

Recently we were contacted by a concerned caretaker about a community cat they feed who had developed a limp. He was also not neutered. We provided a trap and attempted to trap him; thankfully they were able to get him safely trapped last night. ❤️🐈

A huge thank you to Colleen for reaching out and putting in the work to help get this boy the vet care he needed. ❤️

Today he went to cheneyvetclinic and we are so thankful for the great relationship we have with them. Because of his limp, he needed X-rays. Thankfully nothing was broken, but he did have multiple abscesses on his foot which were likely causing the pain and limping. ❤️

We have unfortunately been seeing a lot of injured cats recently, likely due to springtime and unaltered tom cats fighting over mating. ❤️ This is exactly why donations to our Venmo and directly to Cheney Vet Clinic are so important. Those donations are what allow us to step in and help when cats are injured and in need of medical care. ❤️

Thanks to donations made directly to the Cheney Vet clinic, we had some credit available there, and we were able to use Venmo donations to cover the remaining costs so he could receive treatment and the antibiotics he needs. ❤️

He has been nicknamed William, or “Limpy,” and will now recover with Brenda (thank you Brenda! ❤️) until he is healed enough to safely return to his location. ❤️🐾

We are incredibly grateful for this supportive community that continues to make this work possible. Every donation truly helps save lives and get these community cats the care they deserve. ❤️🐈‍⬛❤️

🖤🤍 Medical Lake Tuxedo Cat Update 🐱

We wanted to share an update on the sweet tuxedo boy from Medical Lake. He was found with a serious injury, an abscess on his tail, which was also partially broken.

He was not microchipped, and at first we weren’t sure if he was friendly since he was in so much pain; but now that he’s feeling better, he has shown us just how sweet he really is 🖤🤍

We are so thankful that Dr. Laura was able to see him quickly. He underwent surgery where half of his tail had to be amputated, and he was also neutered while under care. He is now on the road to recovery 🐱

The good news because of his friendly personality, we will be working to get him into Spokanimal or possibly Partners for Pets so he can find his forever home 🖤🤍

Because of this incredible community and your donations, we were able to cover the cost of his medical care. We truly could not do this without you.

Another life changed forever thanks to our wonderful contributors 🖤🤍🐱

Thank you for helping us give him a second chance 🐱🖤🤍
