Here's a scene we bet you know: BOOM goes a firework, and suddenly your brave little warrior becomes a 60-pound lap dog. After years of loving pets like yours, our team knows that waiting until July 3rd to call us for anxiety meds is like buying an umbrella in a thunderstorm. Possible? Maybe. Smart? Not so much. Your dog doesn't understand why the sky is exploding. Your cat doesn't know those booms will end. But you? You can be their hero right now. Medication can make all the difference for anxious pets on July 4th—don’t wait until the last minute. Call us now: (360) 266-8090. Let's set up their comfort plan before the chaos hits.

Fleas. Ticks. Roundworm, heartworm and tapeworm. Our animals are a walking buffet to them, and once they’re on your dog or cat, it’s a short ride on the pet express to your home and family. Many of these parasites and the diseases they carry are zoonotic—meaning they can be transmitted to humans.

While we always recommend year-round parasite protection for pets, it’s especially important in the warmer months when these pests are more active. Parasite prevention is always much more effective and less expensive than treatment. Call us for more information!

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week! 🐾📞💕

This week, we’re celebrating the friendly voices behind the phone, the big smiles at the front desk, and the incredible multitaskers who keep our clinic running - our veterinary receptionists! 👏🏻

They’re the first ones to greet you and your pets, the calm in the chaos, and the heart of the clinic. Whether they’re scheduling appointments or juggling a hundred tasks - they do it all with compassion and care.

Thank you Debbie, Megan, & Kendall for all you do!
We appreciate you this week and every week. If you see them, make sure you thank them for their hard work 🫶🏻

Happy Tuesday!
Dr. Amanda wanted to share the importance of E-collar use!

An E-collar, also known as an Elizabethan collar or “cone of shame”, is a protective collar used on pets, particularly after surgery or to prevent them from licking or scratching a wound. It helps prevent self-trauma, infection, and delays in healing. The cone prevents the pet from reaching the affected area with their mouth, nose, or paws, thus minimizing further injury or damage to the wound.

Why is an E-collar needed?

• Protection of surgical sites:
After surgery, pets may be tempted to lick or scratch at the incision site, potentially leading to complications like infection, suture disruption, or delayed healing.

• Prevention of self-trauma:
Pets may also injure themselves by licking or scratching other areas of the body, such as wounds, allergies, or irritations.

• Protection of other areas:
The cone can also protect the head, eyes, face, and neck from being scratched by the limbs.

• Preventing licking of medications:
Some topical medications may be ingested if the pet licks the area, so the cone helps prevent this.

Types of E-collars:

• Plastic cones:
These are the most common type and are designed to provide a wide range of protection around the head.

• Soft cones:
These are made of fabric or other soft materials and can be more comfortable for the pet.

• Inflatable collars:
These are padded and look like a neck pillow, offering more mobility but may not be suitable for all situations.

Important considerations:

• Fit:
The E-collar should fit properly, allowing the pet to eat, drink, and sleep comfortably, but not allowing them to access the protected area. The proper fit for an e-collar is snug around the neck while able to fit two fingers underneath. Also needs to be longer than your pet’s nose.

• Supervision:
It's important to supervise the pet when they are wearing an E-collar, especially when they are learning to adjust to it. Your pet’s peripheral vision can be decreased for the duration used and it is highly recommended to supervise while outside.

• Duration:
The E-collar should remain on until the wound has fully healed, or the sutures have been removed.

• Alternatives:
In some cases, alternatives to the traditional cone may be considered, such as inflatable collars, padded rings, no flap ear wrap, a t-shirt or a onesie but these may not be appropriate for all situations.
