hi šŸ‘‹ i’m the sun scope farmer.šŸ‘©šŸ¼ā€šŸŒ¾ i do everything by hand, use strictly organic or locally sourced materials, and i also work in a restaurant.

i have a small CSA and sell my produce at the on saturdays, give or take a few this year. i’m planning a few classes and events for folks to come see the beauty of the farm (will let yall know when it’s open for visitors).

the perfect adorable farm dog you see in some pictures is Allie, who was born to pull sleds but has sniffed around farms for as long as i have, always at the end of the row. she is 13.

two interns are making a huge difference on the workload for me this year and deserve a big shoutout- thank you and

in this first year of farming, i have a lot of different things, but not a ton of any one thing. i focus on mixed production: veggies, fruit, flowers, culinary + medicinal herbs, and value added products like herb blends, teas, and infused syrups. the coming summer will be loaded with berries, pears, tomatoes, cukes, peppers— all that good stuff that just doesn’t taste the same from the grocery store.

every day i learn something new about running a small business, and every day i learn something new about farming. the farm is going to evolve continuously, as will i. so thanks for riding along šŸ’–šŸ«

we made bird houses and bat dens for Earth Day! that was a ton of fun and a cool way to use repurposed & excess materials. mine is for a red headed woodpecker; there are a few that visit a tree by my house frequently.

even small acts of kindness for the surrounding land can have big impacts for conservation when these populations are under unprecedented stress. farms are an integral part of natural conservation, since they provide crucial variating habitats and foodwebs for birds, frogs, snakes and little buggies. small, mixed production farms are some of the most naturally biodiverse places i’ve been in the country. not to mention the wealth of knowledge you encounter on a farm: the people spending all their time beside these different populations, learning their names and habits. that’s a beautiful gift that people who stay inside are missing out on.

happy earth day, get outside, and let’s work to conserve farmland

finished up a fun construction project! there were six posts placed in 2022 that were intended to be the base of a shed. with the help of Dylan, Cameron and sweet precious little Julian, we installed a polycarbonate roof on the posts for a covered wash station. this will be where i wash and pack the harvest 😊 currently building a second structure like this as a lean-to against the shed. it’s fun to build off of what was here, utilizing lots of scrap material combined with new. it takes a bit of creativity and a little extra time, but is even more rewarding when finished.

I Removed 9 bags of plastic debris from the farm yesterday.
Pros of leasing a previously established nursery: theres so much infrastructure!! So many tools and materials to start plants from seed, saving hundreds of dollars versus buying transplants from another nursery or hundreds of dollars on all the necessary supplies. Yes we may value each plastic pot at like .50 in our heads but when you need a thousand of them it adds up. I’m very grateful that i get access to a place where these things were waiting patiently to be used.
Cons: after years of neglect lots of this plastic degrades, especially sitting in the sun and all the elements. Microplastics are a huge issue in the food system that I don’t want to contribute to, so I’m being very strict about the plastic materials I want to use in the farm, at some cost to productivity. I’m removing any and all plastic that may cause a microplastic or leaching issue, and not growing any food on areas where there was previously lots of plastic stored.
The farming and horticultural industries are responsible for TONS I’m talking metric tons of plastic each year. Plastic mulches, plastic bags, plastic pots, plastic plant markers, it goes on and on. The level of plastic is incomprehensible if you haven’t stepped on a farm before. I’ve carefully avoided plastic for most of my adult life as a consumer and I want that lifestyle to translate over to how I farm.
What are some clever ways you guys avoid plastic?

Swipe to see the before condition of this little hot house. It was full of lumber and supplies, so I was glad to get everything out, sorted, and to be able to use this space now! Thanks Tessa for your help and company!

This was a huge and unprecedented project for me, and I’m immensely proud of how they turned out. 30 pages of photography, writing, and art— all about what it’s like to live in our foodshed in any role.
Keep an eye out for some copies in local stores in 2026.

bonk!!! I actually managed to stop the momentum before I knocked myself out with this 30 lb post slammer šŸ˜‚ im building a fence using salvaged materials. I dug up the old fence line made of chicken wire and tea posts and rerouted it to the front of the house to keep the doggies out of the garden. The front of the fence is actual black metal fence panels, which look great, but there are four different fencing materials combined to make this fence big enough. But hey, it works, and I usually go for function over aesthetic. Great weather today as it was chilly enough to make this somewhat difficult job fun!! Building a little heat on my own while I get this farm in shape!
