This morning we got a call from a rescue we work with in Georgia ( ) who had come across a cat carrier in the woods, inside the cat carrier was a mama cat and 7 kittens, clearly dumped. Upon investigation, it was clear one of the kittens was in immediate need to medical care. Being a dog rescue, they called us right away.

A volunteer was able to quickly gather them all up and rush them to our vet. Our medical care team discovered that between the 7 kittens, there were 3 different litters of kittens ranging in age from 2 weeks old all the way to 8 weeks old, and just one mama cat. All of them were absolutely covered in fleas, anemic, very dehydrated, and severely underweight. Most of the older kittens also have upper respiratory infections. The worst off is a 4 week old kitten whose URI turned into an abscess in her eye which then ruptured and got infected.

Unfortunately she is too little to safely undergo surgery at this time so she is on pain meds and antibiotics until she can gain enough weight to safely have surgery, in which case she will be losing her eye.

This little family all clung together, clearly having gone through a traumatic time before getting rescued. We were able to place the entire family of 8 in one incredible foster home with a foster mama who will be administering meds around the clock.

Obviously, in an already busy season full of kittens and medical bills, this little family has already racked up the bill in addition to an upcoming $800 eye removal surgery in the near future.

If you would be able to donate monetarily towards our vet bills or purchase much needed kitten dry and wet food off our Amazon and Chewy wishlists to help us to continue saving families like this one, we would be so grateful. Donations can be made by visiting our website at www.yourlocalfurmama.com/donate or by clicking on the link in our bio.

Meet Meep. This sweet, 5 week old little girl came to us with a gnarly injury, a big portion of her paw pad, sliced almost all the way off.

Thank to our incredible vet team, some pain meds, and some TLC from her foster mama, Meep is on the road to recovery. And let me tell ya, she does not let her cast slow her down!!!

That being said, per usual, another big medical bill that we are unprepared for and desperately need help with. We want to be able to keep helping kittens like Meep but need your help to do so.

If you’re able to donate monetarily towards our never ending medical bills, we would be so entirely grateful (especially Meep).

*Spotted on the streets of Chattanooga:* one tiny stray kitten with a story heartbreaking enough to make even the Upper East Side stop talking for a moment.

On Friday, we received a call from a local vet office about a kitten who had been dropped off after being found as a stray with a severe degloving injury to her bottom jaw. Naturally, we stepped in immediately and transferred her to our veterinary team, where she underwent surgery under anesthesia to repair and stitch her wound.

And just like that… Gossip Girl entered the chat.

Despite everything she’s been through, this little lady is unbelievably sweet. No attitude, no bitterness — just nonstop purrs, cuddles, and love. Honestly? She may be the softest heart on the scandal sheet.

Unfortunately, emergency cases like this come with a price tag we never quite prepare for, and Gossip Girl’s medical care has added a significant amount to our vet bill. If you’re able to help support her recovery, we would be beyond grateful.

You can donate by visiting www.yourlocalfurmama.com/donate or by clicking the link in our bio.

Because even on the Upper East Side… everyone deserves a second chance.

XOXO,
Gossip Girl

Most kittens when they are born weigh between 90-100 grams, which is a good healthy weight. Preemies (which we see a lot of) are typically anywhere from 70-80 grams at birth.

Yesterday, I received the tiniest kitten ever, at a whopping 42 grams. In all my years of kittens (over 10), I have genuinely never had a kitten so small. Peanut (what we’re affectionately calling our itty bitty guy) has 3 other siblings, also premature but a bit bigger than him. Two of the siblings are able to latch on mama to feed but the two smallest, have had a lot of trouble latching and are having to be supplement fed with constant weight checks to ensure they are gaining properly.

I’ve got to be honest, I’m not sure how this will turn out, but I am hoping and praying for the best and we are certainly going to fight hard for this sweet little family.

Please meet:

All that said, this is a great reminder as to the overall goal we are fighting for here - spaying and neutering.

These babies were born to a stray mama who happened to choose a very good place to give birth, where kind people sought out the help she needed immediately. Most aren’t that lucky. If she hadn’t gotten help, there’s a good chance none of these babies would have made it and mama would continue to go on and get pregnant, leading to litter after litter.

Some dogs come into this world with every advantage. Denver came into it fighting simply to survive.

Almost two years ago, we took in a litter of nine newborn puppies. They had barely entered the world when tragedy struck. Their mother attacked two of the babies, and Denver suffered unimaginable injuries. The entire right side of his face was degloved, sending him into emergency surgery within hours of being born. He endured facial reconstruction before he had even opened his eyes to the world.

Because of his injuries, Denver could not nurse from a bottle. While other puppies were feeding normally, Denver had to be tube fed around the clock by a dedicated foster who refused to give up on him. He was fragile, tiny, and every day was uncertain.

But Denver chose to fight.

Against every odd stacked against him, he healed. He grew stronger. He learned to trust. He learned that hands could be gentle, beds could be soft, and people could love him. Eventually, he found what we all believed would be his forever home.

And now, through absolutely no fault of his own, Denver is back.
It is impossible to explain how heartbreaking that is for a dog who has already overcome more pain than most ever will. But Denver does not let his past define him. He is still the same resilient, loving boy who beat the odds from day one.

Denver is now 1 year and 9 months old. He is smart, potty trained, leash trained, and crate trained. He knows sit, stay, and paw, and he loves being praised for a job well done. He has some Aussie in him, so he comes with energy, intelligence, and a desire to stay active. At the end of the day, though, his favorite place is curled up beside you in bed, soaking in the comfort he once had to fight for.

Denver does not need pity. He needs permanence. He needs someone who understands that some dogs carry invisible scars, and that the greatest gift you can give them is never having to lose their home again.
He has already survived the unthinkable. Now he deserves the ending he should have had all along: a family who chooses him for life.

Apply to adopt him at www.yourlocalfurmama.com/adopt or by clicking on the link in our bio.

Another day, another litter of kittens with no mama🥺

These sweet babies were brought in by an animal control officer. They are severely underweight for their age and are also dealing with an upper respiratory infection. They are safe in a foster home and receiving the medical care they need to hopefully get them on the right track.

We wouldn’t be able to save babies like this crew without the help of our community. From those who foster and give us the space to rescue more, to those who donate monetarily to help us cover our never ending vet bills, to our social media friends to share their stories and spread the word. We’re just so thankful🤍

With babies pouring in our doors at an alarming rate, we desperately need more fosters in order to continue saying yes to the ones who need us. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, take this as your sign to take the leap and sign up! YLFM provides ALL supplies, medical care, training, and 24/7 support.

Additionally, we have over $10,000 charged to our credit card right now that desperately needs to be paid off. If you’re able to donate monetarily or even shop our Amazon and Chewy wishlists for much needed supplies, we would be so entirely grateful.
