Our vaccine event Saturday was a great success. We don’t have a final count yet but the line didn’t stop until we cut it off.

Huge thanks to Dr. Robyn and the team at My Kids Have Paws for providing the Rabies vaccines.

Shout out to our volunteers who are always willing to show up when we need them.

We still have the Parvo/Distemper vaccines for dogs and Panleuk vaccines for cats available. We will offer these vaccines during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 8-4, free of charge. Anyone can get these and there is no limit. As long as this post is up they are available. These vaccines are so important to keeping your pets healthy from these highly contagious and deadly diseases.

We have ordered more microchips and will post here when they are available again for $5.

We have been getting an influx of calls on thin horses recently . Some of these have turned out to be senior horses that have began dropping weight in their older years .

Below is a helpful basic guide to feeding your senior or hard keeper . (Always consult with your vet or equine nutritionalist before making any drastic changes in a poor horse’s diet .)

Please remember , we have two equine vets that service our area and would be happy to help get your equine back on track.

If you are overwhelmed and feel you can no longer provide for your horse ; there are several rescues in Georgia that may be able to help. Please contact the shelter for that info if you need it . We will be compiling a list of rescues in Georgia and surrounding states.

Happy warm (finally) Sunday!

We are open Tues-Fri 8:30-6:30 like usual this week. We will have staff in the clinic all day Monday for prescription refills and to answer calls.

We are still curbside only; if you need to enter the clinic, please wear a mask.

We still accept male cats for neutering without an appointment. Drop-off time is between 9:30-9:45.

If your dog/cat just had puppies/kittens, please consider getting ALL of them spayed/neutered before adopting anyone out. We can help find funding for ALL of them. Stop the cycle!

What is wrong with this picture?

Answer: Nothing.

If you see snow building up on a horse’s back or rump, you are looking at proof that body heat is not escaping through the hair to melt the snow, and their coat is keeping them properly insulated. Also, the best way for a horse to stay warm is by eating hay! The digestion process creates internal body heat keeping the horse warm. You can also see in this photo that the horse has access to a shelter, but is choosing to stay out in the snow and eat 🙂

Lives on N. Lake Dr.

Has one brown and one blue eyes. Has pink diamond studded collar on.
Groomed fur.

Last seen Monday morning (11/15/21) in the yard/ porch. Always comes home when called.

Guys we can not catch a break . Do you recognize this vehicle or the dog in the comment section ? We came back from dealing with the first abandoned dog and the man in this vehicle has placed a dog in the trap we had set at the shelter . SHARE TO IDENTIFY THIS MAN AND VEHICLE.

UPDATE: HE’S SAFE!! We have the dog back at the shelter now. He’s been fed and is contained thanks to some concerned citizens who spotted him and were able to convince him to stop running away and let them help him! What a terrifying, freezing cold ordeal for this little guy. The Murray County Sheriff’s Office has all of the information that we have been given. THANK YOU ALL FOR SHARING THE POST AND FOR CALLING IN INFORMATION TO HELP HIS CASE!!! You ROCK! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾 Someone dropped off a dog at the shelter around 4am this morning and tied it to the front door. Before we contact law enforcement to begin the process we would like to speak to this person and find out what the circumstances were. So if you recognize the vehicle, the persons stride and mannerisms or the dog please let us know. The shelter is closed for the holiday today, but we are ALWAYS closed at 4am. I added a photo of the dog in the comment section

Friday morning fun. The small girl is on stray hold and will be available for adoption on 12/19. Great Pyr is going to rescue today.

Another Murray "throw away" dog update: "I just want to tell you ladies there at the shelter that I couldn't be happier with our little Bella. She is such a precious baby. I finally got all her shots and she is spayed and I sent confirmation already but I have to say I so appreciate your services there and I see on the facebook post all the time so many babies that need a home. I just wanted to let you know Bella couldn't be happier. We enjoy her so much she is a God send to me-I needed a baby to help me get past some traumas I had went through over the last few years. I am sending a picture as well to let you see Bella now. it will be in the following email." These are the beautiful animals that people no longer want. We don't always have the "perfect" dog you are looking for, but we do always have a dog you could help become the perfect dog for you.

Some of the great dogs looking for rescue or adoption. Please help us get some of these dogs into their forever homes. The shelter is full.

Dex went for his first physical therapy appointment today. This video was taken when he first got in the pool. He was not too sure about this.

DEX UPDATE: Sorry it has taken me awhile to update on Dex. He has been doing great with all the extra attention he is getting. He has finished all his meds and doesn’t seem to be in any pain now. He gets around very well but as you can see in the video his leg does stick out some. He goes for his recheck Monday morning at RIVER so we will have more to report then. As far as donations go we have had a great response but we are only halfway to the total of $5000 that Dex has run up on his credit card. We still have several fundraisers coming up so please help where you can. Currently we have a Pampered Chef fundraiser until 2/14. You can see the details including the catalog in our events. We are also planning a photo shoot for Easter. You can get your kids pictures taken with Clarisse, our adorably spoiled bottle lamb. We will provide more details soon. Pizza Hut has also offered to do a fundraiser for us. Those details will be provided later. I know you are being bombarded with requests for donations and we don’t particularly enjoy asking. But if we want to help the animals in Murray County and give them the best second chance possible then it takes the whole community. IF we raise more money than is needed for Dex then we will start an emergency care fund for stray animals so we can give the next one a fighting chance. Mr. Bob A.K.A. Love Bug is a wonderful calm bobtail cat who would be great for an older person or someone who just wants a stress reliever.

We finally found “Chewy” a toy

ADOPTED!! This is our big boy Titan (ID 13128). He is so playful and sweet. He just needs to be neutered and we have donations to help with that. Please give him a chance.

Adopted! ID 13024. Female Shar-pei mix. Around 35 lbs.

ADOPTED!! Our big red boy is looking for a new home. He appears to have been an inside dog but nobody has come to claim him. He is interested in cats but doesn't seem to want to harm them. If you are interested in adopting and have other dogs you are encouraged to bring them here to meet. ID 13052

Update: ADOPTED!!! Batman is still looking for his forever home and enjoyed a small bit of freedom this morning. Every dog deserves the chance to run and play and be loved by their own family. Batman is very special. He gets along great with other dogs but will want to be with people whenever he can. He will not tolerate being crated. He has also broken out of kennels during storms which he is very afraid of. He is calm during storms with a Benadryl. If interested please come meet him.
