Royal Bird Company Royal Bird Company, handfeeding baby yellow naped amazons, handfed african grey parrots, double yellow head amazons, blue gold macaws.

Professional aviculturist, hand fed baby african grey parrots, yellow naped amazon, blue fronted ,double yellow head amazon, umbrella cockatoos, blue gold macaws, We have been one of the most dedicated responsible breeding facilties for over 30 years. We started our business in the late 70s and early 80s as import quarantine liquidators, As time went on we started the breeding operation to supply

babies to the trade. As our collection grew so did the knowledge needed to properly house, feed and maintain these birds. At one time we had in our collection upwards of 300 pair of breeding birds at the compound, all large species. We very quickly learned that conures and others were not what we wanted to breed and or keep. We focused on companion species that we thought made good household pets. We also incorporated a large amount of buildings to our own research on nutrition, breeding, advanced handfeeding techniques, advanced incubation procedures, mutation studies, rare species studies. With these programs in place and our resources we quickly became one of the most successful facilities in the USA. Our main focus was and still is, education to the bird owners and breeders about responsible ownership and to the breeders responsible breeding. We focus only on real species, we do not condone the breeding of or breed hybrids of any type for any reasons. As there is absolutely no logical reason for this practice of bloodline pollution. As real professional aviculturists we must try to promote the ownership of, the breeding of only pure species. There is no bird that is as beautiful as the god given species one sees flying overhead and in the jungles and in the natural ranges around the world. Royal Bird Company is dedicated to the responsible ownership and breeding of these wonderful creatures.

This is completely unacceptable.

Lincoln County, North Carolina, has proposed a ban on all animals not native to North Carolina, so this applies to fish, birds, mammals, herps, and invertebrates. The County is updating its animal ordinance, but the draft includes some very overreaching measures. This does not seem to be intentional, but we do not want a poorly worded law to pass, as future enforcement could crack down on anyone, and the law could also be copied in other jurisdictions. Lawmakers need to hear opposition from local residents.

Lincoln County residents must contact Commissioners ASAP! This may be voted on in May. We have a sample letter below. Remember to be civil and professional! If you are a non-resident (such as another organization, veterinarian, herpetologist, educator, professor, zoologist, relevant professional, etc.), please compose a letter and include your title and credentials.

What is proposed:

1. A ban on all animals not native to North Carolina (as they will all be listed as "dangerous exotic animals");
2. The only pets allowed as "domesticated animals" are those "that are indigenous to Lincoln County and normally, customarily share human habitation in Lincoln County and are normally dependent on humans for food and shelter in Lincoln County, such as dogs and cats." (even though dogs and cats are not indigenous);
3. A ban on ALL breeding of animals not native to North Carolina;
4. Traditional livestock animals (horses, cattle, etc.) will be allowed and regulated under state law;
5. There is a grandfather provision allowing people who currently have "exotic animals" to keep them, but residents must get a license for EACH exotic animal. NOTE again that all animals not native to North Carolina are "exotic" under the definitions. This means each aquarium fish (non-native to NC), canary, gecko, dart frog, ferret, and every other non-native animal needs to be permitted. You also cannot get more of these "exotic" animals after June 1, 2025, and the permits must be renewed annually;
6. There are also changes regarding dogs and "dangerous dogs."

Below are some of the new definitions. NOTE that in order to be a "dangerous exotic animal," the animal only needs to meet ONE of these criteria, not all of them. This is because the word OR is used instead of AND at number 5.

DANGEROUS EXOTIC ANIMAL means any animal which:
(1) Is not native or indigenous to this state;
(2) Would ordinarily be confined to a zoo;
(3) Does not have an established wild population in this State;
(4) Is not regulated by the State Wildlife Commission;
(5) Is likely to cause a reasonable person to be fearful of significant destruction of property or of bodily harm, including, but not limited to, non-human primates, ocelots, wolves, hybrid wolves, venomous reptiles, and other such animals; or
(6) All mammals designated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Agriculture or other national or state public health protection agencies as embargoed or prohibited.

In addition to "dangerous exotic animal," there are new definitions for "inherently dangerous exotic mammal" and "inherently dangerous reptile." All of those three types of animals would be banned per this new text: "At no time may a person harbor a dangerous exotic animal, inherently dangerous exotic mammal or inherently dangerous reptile. A violation of this section shall be considered a Class 3 Misdemeanor and subject to civil penalties in §92.99 of this Ordinance."

DOMESTICATED ANIMALS. A species of animals that are indigenous to Lincoln County and normally, customarily share human habitation in Lincoln County and are normally dependent on humans for food and shelter in Lincoln County, such as dogs and cats.

Lincoln County Commissioners,

I am a Lincoln County resident and responsible animal owner who opposes the proposed changes to the county's animal ordinance. I appreciate that the County seeks to make a better animal ordinance for law enforcement and residents, but I do not support the proposal. While I do not think it is intentional, the draft bans all aquarium fish, pet birds like parakeets, hamsters, ferrets, most pet reptiles, most pet amphibians, and more. This is because, as drafted, the proposal considers all these types of animals to be "dangerous exotic animals" since that definition includes all species not native to North Carolina, and those animals do not qualify as "domesticated animals" under the new definitions. I also oppose the ban on breeding exotic animals, as many people breed aquarium fish, pet birds, geckos, and other animals.

Statistically, almost 1/3 of Americans own fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians that are not native to North Carolina, so this will affect many Lincoln County residents. All of those people would need to get an annual permit for each animal and could not own more of these pets in the future.

Please make rational changes to the draft ordinance. Thank you, and have a good day.

Sincerely,

your name or initials

For about 8 minutes we hear this yellow naped parrot sound off.
We placed a 7 month old baby yellow naped amazon in her small sleep cage and we hid a camera. This baby amazon girl has a great talent she is already talking. She is a great bird and comes from very talented pair of honduran parrot mom and dad. The yellow naped amazon is one of the best amazon parrots or any parrot for mimic talents. Many times the well trained yellow nape far exceed the talents of the african grey parrots. Here we see and hear this baby amazon has started talking and mimicing sounds at a break neck speed at such an early age. There will be no limit to the pet potential and talking mimicry of this super bird. Make sure to subscribe now.
This baby female yellow nape hatched in june 8 2024.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of American Federation of Aviculture past president Mary Ellen LePage on February 1, 2025. Mary Ellen’s son Rich was with her in her final moments and helped her with her final goodbyes. She is survived by Rich and her other son Joe and daughter Terry. Mary Ellen was a former fire chief in Casa Loma, CA, near her home in Santa Cruz.

Mary Ellen was always a fierce advocate for aviculture and a long-standing member of AFA. She was a long-time fixture at conventions for AFA, and other organizations, and was never shy to speak her mind, ask her questions or make her position known. She worked with rare species and wild birds and supported conservation efforts all over the world.

Her family asks that no flowers be sent but memorial gifts can be sent in her name to AFA.

We have gotten a few messages asking us what a real true Greater sulphur crested cockatoo looks like. There so many socalled breeders that try to scam people. This video shows a very nice specimen of a TRITON subspecies greater sulphur crested. This bird has already sold and is not available, but shown here as reference only for species ID. for more info on our birds, make sure to visit our website royalbirdcompany.com.

I made this little video in remembrance of our mom and dad, Floyd and Ruth Richard. I owe them everything. They put up with a lot because of me and i could never pay them back or begin to tell them how sorry i am for all their sleepless nights. My sister Edie Richard Carpenter and me are doing well today and we wish momma and daddy a Merry Christmas in heaven. The song in the video is Angel Lane, I changed the arrangement a little.. Make sure to have your sound on.

Our Story

Royal Bird Company, Avicultural Breeding Research Center. World largest breeding research program for Yellow Naped Amazon parrots, african grey parrots, double yellow head amazon parrots, cockatoos, macaws. Owned and operated by Mike and Sheila Richard, authors and researchers in aviculture. Producing handfed baby parrots for the responsible pet owners.We have been one of the most dedicated responsible breeding facilities in the USA since 1980. We started our business in the late 70s and early 80s as import quarantine liquidators and financed our breeding/research operation start. We started the breeding operation to supply babies and future domestic breeding stock to the trade. As our collection grew so did the hard learned knowledge needed to properly house, feed and maintain these birds. At one time we had in our collection upwards of 300 pair of breeding birds at the compound, all large species. We very quickly learned that conures and some others were not what we wanted to breed and or keep. Many species are well known for several illnesses such as conures with the devasting pachecos virus. We stayed away from problem birds from the start. We focused on companion species that we thought made good avian companions. We also had focus on several rare species and rare genetic mutations. We commited large amount of breeder buildings to our own research study programs on nutrition, breeding, advanced handfeeding techniques, advanced incubation procedures, genetic mutation studies, endangered and rare species studies. With these programs in place and our resources we quickly became one of the most successful and selective facilities in the USA. Our main focus was and still is, education to the bird owners and breeders about responsible ownership and to responsible selective breeding. We focus only on real true species, we do not condone the breeding of or breed hybrids of any type for any reasons. As there is absolutely no logical reason for this unethical practice of bloodline pollution. As real professional aviculturist we must try to promote the ownership of and the breeding of only pure species. There is no bird that is as beautiful as the god given species one sees flying overhead in the jungles in the natural ranges around the world. Royal Bird Company is dedicated to the responsible ownership of these wonderful creatures. Most of our breeding stock are the offspring of original imported stock direct from the jungles from around the world. This enabled us to truthfully keep original bloodlines pure. We chose not to interbreed subspecies and only kept species and subspecies paired together. Real professional aviculture is to maintain and breed pure bloodlines and pure species as they are in their wild habitats. www.royalbirdcompany.com
