It’s raining kittens at Animal Care & Control! We need kitten (and cat!) fosters to help make space during kitten season. Oftentimes kittens just need help getting to 2 pounds so we can spay and neuter them prior to adoption! Others need help with socialization - it can be a scary to be so tiny in a big, noisy world!

Despite what they did to her ears, despite making her have multiple litters, despite, despite, despite — despite whatever else Vixen has had to overcome, she is still the snuggliest, sweetest girl.

Here’s what we know about Ms. Vixen:

🐾 House trained
🐾 Crate trained (will whine at first, but will settle in a bigger wire crate)
🐾 Non destructive if left out
🐾 Velcro dog
🐾 SUPER Sweet
🐾 Know “sit, paw and stay”
🐾 Takes treat gently
🐾 Freshly cropped ears, still scabbing over
🐾 Dog friendly with dogs her size, has not done well with small dogs
🐾 Very quiet in the house
🐾 Unknown about cats or small kids

Yesterday should have been a disaster. 51 dogs showed up from a court case just a few hours before closing, arriving at a jam packed shelter. Roads were closed, water line was broken, and the internet was out. But staff, volunteers, rescues, and foster families showed up. Dozens of dogs left safely and people worked and volunteered late into the evening to get the newcomers settled.

Lots of people asked what was needed:
- no water donations needed, the line has been repaired!
- leashes, harnesses, and collars would be very helpful. Sturdy slip leads are what’s used on site.
- treats!! Approved treats include and
- crates of all sizes but particularly large and medium wire crates.
- patience! Internet is still down so emails and other communication will be slower than normal. If you want to foster but haven’t heard about your application, you can go to the shelter and start with a staycation. Once your app is processed, you can transition to fostering.

Here’s a quick summary of what’s going on at CMACC today:

- Main road has a closure so foot traffic is slow
- Internet outage
- Construction hit a water line so water access
is out
- 40 court case dogs about to enter the shelter system
- A literal truckload of puppies waiting to be surrendered
- No space

⚠️ ROAD CLOSURE – BYRUM DR.

We were just informed that Byrum Dr. is closed until tomorrow morning (6/4). A dirt access path has been opened across from the front of the shelter (Piney top), and the road crew has placed cones to mark it, however, it’s not easy to spot.

They’ve informed us a flagger will be out there to help direct traffic, but please be prepared for potential confusion or delays when arriving at the shelter today.

🚨 Shelter Capacity Update 🚨
We’ve been at max capacity for over a week, and the numbers keep rising. Space is critically limited:

🐾 Adoption Puppy: 7 kennels open
🐾 Adoption Dog: 6 kennels open
🐾 Lost Dog: 1 kennel open
🐾 Toomey: 4 kennels open

We used to average about 20 intakes per day, now we’re seeing 30 or more every day.
We used to ask for 20 open kennels to manage daily intakes. That’s no longer enough. We need at least 30 dogs to leave TODAY through adoption, foster, or rescue to keep dogs safe.

Byrum Dr. is closed for construction through Wednesday, but we are still open!

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is full and urgently asking for adoptions, fosters, and staycations to prevent euthanasia.
