Today is a very sad day at BCR. We mourn the loss of our sweet girl, Piggy Dog, passing early this morning.
In 2017, Sarah decided she wanted to find an ex-fighter to retrain as a pet and ranch dog. After years of importing police and personal protection dogs to train, this was a long overdue project she wanted to complete. Pig made it easy to transition from intense training, into rescue and rehabilitation.
When we went to Dallas Animal Shelter they had a very sick and very sad female bait dog set for euthanasia. She appeared to have distemper or some sort of infection that was likely going to be terminal in spite of intervention.
She had puncture wounds, whip marks and extreme deviations in her tissue due to bites and trauma.
Sarah decided if for no other reason than to bring her home to die somewhere peaceful, she should go home with us and live out whatever time she had at BCR.
For 5 days she couldn’t walk or eat and was given intense veterinary medical care at our home. Sarah carried her in and out of the house just to use the bathroom when she
couldn’t even stand.
Piggy girl blossomed into a calm yet protective and loyal friend from there. She became the only dog we inevitably trusted with young children and our cats. Much to the opposition of her past, Pig was no fighter.
She was the only big dog ever allowed on the couch. Not really because we allowed it, but because she was so sweet and suckered us all into letting her do whatever she wanted.
All dogs go to heaven, but Piggy girl has a special spot up there reserved for the ones who changed entire perspectives and beliefs in dozens of people about breed identity and personality traits; especially me, who hated pitbulls before she was mine.
We love you Piggy
