Paint split to chocolate Satin cockerel under a year old NMB. He has turned out beautifully and he still has some filling in to do. He will be even more beautiful when he’s fully matured. He has a sweet personality just have too many boys at the moment or he’d be staying. Pm to discuss. Local pick up only Sanford or Hallwood Va.

Cleaning out the chocolate grow out pen and sanitizing today. With how rainy and hot it’s been as well as a waterer that decided to leak it was a potential breeding ground for Coccidia.

For my clean outs I get rid of all the shavings. Then I spray drench the pen in my favorite sanitizing solution : Activated Oxine. I spray it on all surfaces including walls. I scrape all wood of any droppings and re-saturate it and mop with the Oxine. Then I spray the floor down again. I let it all dry before adding the new bedding. It may honestly be overkill with how much solution I use for just one pen but I don’t wanna take any chances and bonus is the solution kills a lot more than just coccidia so it’s a good preventive .

One thing I have to note that makes cleans outs so much easier is putting down vinyl flooring. I’ll never have another coop without it. It comes so clean and there’s no worry that anything is soaking in to bare wood floor.

During this whole process I was getting some straggling shavings up by hand with a rubber broom when I look over to see that the chocolate grow outs have some seriously nosey neighbors 😂

What is your process for cleaning out your coops and what kind of chemicals or solutions are your go to and why? I’m always up to learn or change things around if I can make anything better for the birds.

It’s finished!! Took a little bit with working on it in his spare time after work , running out of materials a couple times and then the rain never ending around here but it’s done!! Now we just gotta move it and get its new residents settled. I think we both anticipated it being lighter and it’s really just not but at least new additions in quarantine will have a lot of space 😂. Big thanks to my love for making it happen!! He said he’s retiring from making coops but that’s not true 😂. A little later he said ok so what you have for me to make next again?

A little update on the chocolate chicks I hatched from the shipped eggs from Alabama! These gorgeous babies are from Amber Gullo with 5G Silkie Co. They are filling in so nicely and I suspect at least one pullet and one roo. Not sure about the last one but we love them all so much either way!!

I had such a wonderful time today at the Swap at Painters Garrison’s Methodist Church! It was so nice to see my friends I’ve made through this hobby of ours and to meet some new friends as well! I look forward to another one hopefully soon! Thank you to everyone who made it out today and even more to those who set it all up.

Busy busy busy today. Finishing up things for tomorrow’s swap and then tackling a little house cleaning. My youngest asked to make some silkie shirts today so have to get it all together for when he gets home to make them. Sneak peak as I’m working on the design for them now featuring our favorite girl! Might make some car decals too while we have all the stuff out. Then gonna go through the grow outs again to pick who’s staying and who’s going. It’s so hard when i seriously love them all so much but it has to be done. I’m so excited for tomorrow but will also be happy to get back to normal next week. And I’m sure my son will be happy to have his computer back full time and not me in his room so much😂. Gonna need lots more coffee today.
