Big 2 News - KMID

Hotter weather is on the way and that means more outdoor fun with your pups, make sure you keep them safe!! In warmer places like Arizona, snakes don't hibernate as long as they do in colder climates. Dogs are especially prone to rattlesnake bites because they are curious, often nosing around in logs, under rocks and leaves, and in holes in the ground. They may also feel protective of their humans if they come across a rattlesnake during a hike and attack it in defense of their person. This vaccine is designed to help the dog develop antibodies in response to the appearance of rattlesnake venom in the body. These antibodies can result in less pain and tissue damage in the area of the bite, more time to get to a veterinary clinic after a bite, and potentially less need for antivenin and other treatment. The vaccine is not fully-protective; it will not completely mitigate the effects of a rattlesnake bite. How well it works for a dog that is bitten by a rattlesnake depends on the type of snake, the amount of venom delivered during the bite, the size of the dog, the size and age of the snake, and the location of the bite. However, dogs that are bitten by these snakes often experience less pain and swelling, and have a faster recovery when they have been previously vaccinated. We offer this vaccine and antivenin/treatments, keep your companions safe this summer!

Did You Know? Nearly 50% of the poisoning cases managed by Pet Poison Helpline involve human medications—both over-the-counter and prescription drugs. Here's a handout that lists the top 10 most common medications that are harmful to pets.

DYK? Xylitol, which is toxic to dogs, is found in more than just sugar-free candies. It can also be used in medications, nasal sprays and vitamins.

Dental disease is the most common health issue in pets, affecting 78% of dogs and 68% of cats. A pet’s periodontal disease could lead to pain and tooth loss. #pethealth #pets #petcare

How much time will you have to exercise a new #pet? Dogs should have at least one 15-minute walk a day.

Fun fact, I found this one to be very interesting! :
The oldest cat ever was Creme Puff, who was born on Aug. 3, 1967 and lived until Aug. 6, 2005—that's 38 years and 3 days!

Ever wonder why, when a cat climbs down from a tree or post he climbs down backward? A cat can't climb head first down a tree because every claw on a cat's paw points the same way. To get down from a tree, a cat must back down.

Fun Fact time!!

Did you know?..
Blue-eyed white cats are more likely to be deaf. If a cat has one blue eye, the cat is likely deaf on the blue-eyed side.

The benefits of vaccinating your #pet against harmful diseases greatly outweigh any risk of side effects, which are often mild. Many contagious diseases are airborne and can make their way into your home. Indoor or outdoor, get your #pet vaccinated! #petcare

DID YOU KNOW: Distemper is a serious and contagious viral illness with no known cure, usually causing high fever, coughing, vomiting and diarrhea, among other clinical signs, in both dogs and cats—but this can easily be avoided by staying on top of your pet's vaccinations.

We can not stress enough the importance of getting your pets vaccinated and staying up to date. This could mean life or death. This IS the difference between a dog contracting parvo or a dog not contracting it because of immunizations.

VACCINATE VACCINATE VACCINATE PEOPLE! We understand that sometimes money is tight that is why... WE OFFER A VACCINE CLINIC EVERY SATURDAY 1PM-3PM ALL VACCINES 13.99. :-)
