Our herd got smaller yesterday, but heaven’s got bigger!

Petey was one of a kind. Anyone could ride him and many a kid did.

He was the first one my son climbed on after his accident and handled all that fear from my son like a guardian angel!

May the grass be belly high and the water cool and clear, ‘Ol friend!

We may not have fancy stalls in a barn, but we have good pens with ample protection. And we maintain these pens. Our horses get our best. When it would have been nice to soak up the sun and take a break we took advantage of the warm temps and leveled out pens and scraped up the manure that we couldn’t get when it snowed. Pens are cleaned out daily but this was to make our horses as comfortable as we could. It’s a lot of work but so worth it. In just a short time our pens are actually starting to dry out and the footing is smooth and not so jagged when it freezes. “A happy horse is a more willing horse”. Cattle do better too😉

Unfortunately due to proximity of Christmas we did not get enough teams signed up for our soccer match.

We will try to reschedule one in January if there is interest to do so!

You may or may not agree but I think all horses should learn how to be roped. And also horses need to know how to have a rope swung and thrown off of them!

To those who want to be self employed remember it ain’t a vacation. Got home around 8 the other night pens were melted and took advantage of it to cleaned the calf pen around the feeders. It’s 24/7 and there’s always something that needs done. And remember the best way to make a small fortune in horses is to start out with a big fortune!

If you haven’t heard we had a bit of wind around here the last couple of days.

We had just opened a new bale a couple of days before. The was very fine cut and I was afraid the wind would blow most of it away.

My son came up with this idea of wrapping the opened bale with plastic snow fence. It worked great . We fed with square bales for a couple of days.

Don’t underestimate a kid’s ingenuity. They’re pretty crafty and handy if you allow them to figure things out.

Well it was fun riding in the snow while it lasted but the melting and freezing has made it unsafe to ride outside for awhile.

So I decided to make the best of it and work a c**t with Rose.

This is a great way to break up the monotony of training but also teaches both horses things that will be useful.

For the c**t it teaches him I can direct his feet whether I’m on the ground or in the saddle. It also lets him see me above him.

For my horse it teaches her to stand quietly when asked, move quickly when needed and how to read the other horse.

There is always things to work on that will make your horses better. Regardless of whether their just being started or have been rode for years. You never stop training them.

Thanks for subscribing.
