🌟 Happy Father’s Day! 🌟

Today, we celebrate the amazing dads who bring strength, wisdom, and love into our lives. Whether they are biological fathers, stepdads, grandfathers, or father figures, we honor the guidance, support, and care they provide. To the dads who show up every day with patience, laughter, and dedication — thank you for everything you do.

Fathers shape the future in ways we can’t always see, but we feel it every day. You teach us valuable life lessons, make countless sacrifices, and always know how to brighten our days with your presence. Whether it’s through the tough times or the easy moments, your love and leadership never go unnoticed.

A special shout-out to the fathers who love their dogs just as much as their families. 🐾 Your bond with your furry companions is a beautiful reminder of the loyalty and unconditional love that exists in all relationships.

Here’s to the men who lift us up, make us laugh, and inspire us to be our best selves. You are truly appreciated, not just today, but every day.

Wishing all the incredible fathers out there a day filled with love, joy, and well-deserved appreciation! 💙

🐾 Meet Kami! 🐾

Kami is a 5-month-old English Springer Spaniel with a loving heart and a beautiful, playful personality. Diane, Kami’s supportive furmom, has been wanting another ESS for quite some time, especially after the passing of her Shih Tzu in February. Kami’s arrival has helped bring joy and healing to Diane, but like any puppy, she’s still learning and needs some guidance.

Kami is a smart and attached pup who wants to please, but she does have some behaviors that need attention. She tends to jump up when she thinks it’s playtime, sometimes causing her teeth to bite—leading to some painful moments for Diane. Kami also experiences separation anxiety, barking, howling, and whining whenever Diane leaves, even for short periods. She loves jumping on guests, climbing on furniture, chasing cats, eating rugs, and rummaging through papers. Kami even enjoys playing with her water bowl—pawing it around and tossing it! While she’s mostly potty trained, Kami still needs help with communicating when she needs to go outside, and occasionally, she eats her stool, which Diane finds troubling.

Diane is working hard to address these behaviors and hopes to teach Kami to stop biting, jumping on people and guests, and to manage her separation anxiety. She also wants Kami to learn leash manners, not to jump on furniture unless given the command, and to be well-behaved around other pets. Basic commands like sit, stay, come, and down are already in progress, and if we can help Kami stop eating the flowers, that would be a bonus!

We’re excited to support Kami and Diane in creating a peaceful, well-mannered family environment for everyone. 🐶✨

🐾 Meet Mocha! 🐾

Mocha is an 8-year-old Toy Australian Shepherd with a loving heart and a sharp mind! Despite her age, she still plays like a puppy and adores her family. While Mocha is an amazing companion, like many dogs, she needs a little guidance in some areas of her behavior.

She tends to bark at people at the front door and continues even when directed to stop. She also pulls away on the leash once she’s finished walking and can be a little stubborn when it comes to playing nicely—she often grips your hand closer when asked to "leave it." Mocha also jumps on visitors and hasn’t had much socialization with other dogs.

Amanda and Shane, Mocha’s dedicated pawrents, are working hard to correct these behaviors and ensure Mocha becomes the best dog she can be. We’re excited to support Mocha and her family on their training journey! 🐶✨

🎓🐾 Big shoutout to our superstar pup, Jaxson! He just graduated from Advanced Obedience Training and we couldn’t be prouder! 🙌💙

When we started this journey, recall was a challenge and long stays off-leash felt like a distant dream. But after lots of hard work (and treats 😅), Jaxson is now rocking his off-leash skills like a pro — coming when called and holding his stay like a champ, even with distractions around! 🐕‍🦺✨

Watching how far he’s come has been amazing. Way to go, Jaxson — you're officially the goodest boy! 🐶

🎓🐾 Big congrats to Miller! 🐶💫

Our silly, lovable, and oh-so-motivated pup just graduated Puppy 101 Training! From zoomies during “stay” to mastering “sit” like a pro, Miller brought his unique mix of goofy energy and heart-melting charm to every session. 💙

We’re so proud of how far he’s come — and we’re even more excited for the adventures (and more training!) ahead. Way to go, Miller! 🐾

Welcome to the pack, Misia! 🐶

Meet Misia, a 4-month-old German Shepherd who will one day be a great protector for her farm and family! 🐾 As she grows, Misia is learning and developing, but like any puppy, she needs some guidance in certain areas. She’s working through general puppy biting, rolling when her collar is put on, and jumping up. June and Jeff, her dedicated pawrents, are committed to setting a strong foundation for Misia so she grows into a well-trained, confident companion. We’re excited to support Misia on her journey to becoming the best protector she can be! 🐶✨

When to Seek Professional Help from a Dog Trainer or Behaviorist? 🐶🐾

As a dog owner, it’s normal to face challenges in training and behavior management. From housebreaking and leash training to more complex behavioral issues like aggression or anxiety, each dog is unique and may require different approaches. While some challenges can be solved with basic training and patience, there are times when seeking professional help from a dog trainer or behaviorist is essential.

Knowing when to call in an expert can make all the difference in addressing your dog’s behavior effectively and preventing the problem from worsening. In this blog, we’ll discuss common signs that indicate it's time to reach out to a professional and what you can expect from a dog trainer or behaviorist.

Addressing Resource Guarding in Dogs: Understanding and Managing the Behavior 🐶💖

Resource guarding is a common behavioral issue in dogs, and it can manifest in various ways. Whether it's food, toys, or even a specific area of the home, many dogs will guard what they perceive as valuable from both humans and other animals. While resource guarding is a natural instinct that stems from a dog's survival instincts, it can become problematic if it leads to aggressive behavior or creates tension in your household.

At Alan’s K9 Academy, we understand that managing resource guarding requires patience, consistency, and the right techniques. In this blog, we’ll explore what resource guarding is, how to recognize the signs, and most importantly, how to address it to create a more peaceful and trusting environment for both you and your dog.

Identifying Leash Reactivity in Your Dog and What to Do Next? 🐕🐾

Leash reactivity is one of the most common behavioral issues dog owners face. At Alan’s K9 Academy, we work with dog owners to address leash reactivity and develop effective strategies for both the dog and owner. In this blog, we’ll explain what leash reactivity is, how to spot the signs, and most importantly, what you can do to resolve it.

Hand Signals vs. Verbal Cues: Which Should You Use in Dog Training? ✊🐾

When training your dog, one of the most important things you’ll do is decide how to communicate with them. Hand signals and verbal cues are both effective ways to convey commands, but each method has its own set of advantages and considerations. Understanding when to use each and how to incorporate both into your dog’s training will help you communicate more clearly and build a stronger bond with your canine companion.

At Alan’s K9 Academy, we believe in using a balanced approach to training, incorporating both hand signals and verbal cues for the best results. In this blog, we’ll explore the pros and cons of each method and provide tips on how to use them effectively.
