Understanding Breeder Tiers
Not all breeders operate at the same level. We believe it’s important for potential owners to understand the differences in quality, care, and cost across the Turkish Boz Shepherd community.
Top-Tier Breeders
• Proven, traceable lineage with documented pedigrees.
• Breed for correct phenotype, temperament, and working ability.
• Full health testing (DNA panels, OFA, etc.).
• Puppies raised in clean, structured environments with early socialization and livestock exposure.
• Dogs often come microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with ears docked to traditional working standards.
• Price range: $4,500–$6,000+
Mid-Tier Breeders
• Decent dogs but less consistency in lineage or phenotype.
• Limited or no documented health testing.
• Less selective pairing process.
• May have less livestock exposure or structured socialization.
• Price range: $2,000–$3,000
Low-Tier Breeders
• Breed primarily for profit or casual purposes.
• No health testing, weak or unknown lineage, and no adherence to breed standards.
• Puppies may be poorly socialized or raised in substandard conditions.
• Price range: Under $2,000
