Big boy Cane went back to his most excellent hoomans. Thank you Mark and Julie for sharing him with us for the weekend. He has always been such a doll. Unfortunately, he was required to leave Agnes the purple hippo here. 🤣

We never saw an official tie so they got some vet “assistance” on Tuesday. Canada’s progesterone was perfect so going to send good juju into the universe for a beautiful litter of black/yellow. Her expected whelping date is 7/14/2026 with go home date around Labor Day weekend.

Cane’s exhausted mug and Canada unhappy in her b!tches britches.

Cane brought his own lovey from home but is more obsessed with this purple hippo. He’s letting Canada borrow his lovey for now. Watching this brick house of dog carrying around a big purple hippo while he snorts about it is just love. 💕💕

Mr.Cane is visiting the Valley in the hopes he and Canada can do some business naturally. I forgot how thick he is and that mauling you is his love language. He’s been trying to flatten me for 30 minutes.

A quick sad and happy update from the valley. Unfortunately, Lady’s single puppy did not trigger labor and the vet had to perform a c-section/spay. The puppy was not viable.

I know many breeders will still let the mama have more litters after a c-section. It is not a choice I am comfortable with for our dogs for many of the same reasons that it is discouraged for woman to do. However, when a woman chooses to have a vaginal birth after a c-section, there are significant medical procedures and supports in place for the delivery. It is not the same for dogs and I am not comfortable hoping it will all work out nor would I want to put them through another significant surgery if it goes south. It is my desire that our ladies have only one major surgery in their life, their spay.

I’ve said it before and feel it’s worth repeating, our dogs and their health are our number one priority. They are our companions who happen to have the excellent disposition and structure that is worth breeding. This is also why our mamas are not re-homed when they are no longer breeding. We don’t remove them from our lives, we remove breeding from our lives…often for years.

With all that being said, Oh Canada started her heat today! She is a proven mama who looooooves caring for puppies, hers or another mama. She just wants all the puppies for herself. This means we will hopefully have an early July litter of black and yellows to go home in early September.

The three amigos in their favorite spot whenever someone is in the kitchen. They line up on this wall every single time in their duplicate couch potato sit waiting to be dispatched as the clean up vacuum should we drop anything.

Miss Lady (Canada’s sister) had her puppy count x-ray today and there is 1…one puppy. We obviously don’t know if it’s yellow/black or male/female. There are concerns with her only having one so we will be monitoring her closely in the hopes we don’t have to go the c-section route as I always spay them if we do. Her whelping date could be anywhere from April 14-24 so we will update here as we get closer and temperature drops. I will be reaching out to those with puppy applications on file by Friday to update on her.

With that being said, we are expecting Canada to have her next heat anytime this month or next as she generally goes 7 months between heats. This would put puppies ready anywhere around August/September.

A dog, a cat, and a granddaughter jockeying for all the space on top of me. For everyone’s information, the capacity of a queen size bed is 1 fat cat, 1 very leggy granddaughter, 1 big baby chocolate lab, 1 upside down how to train a dragon black lab, 1 pudgy ol’ yellow lab, and me…barely.

The only thing that terrifies 80 pound Banks is my youngest daughter’s 13 pound cat. Mimi on the other loves him and just wants to snuggle. She thought she had gotten close enough to him he would stay but nope, he got off the bed and proceeded to pout at the edge of the bed.

When that didn’t work he climbed up and wedged himself behind our heads in like 12 inches of space while she rolled around the entire bed. Big baby.
