Happy Tails Animal Rescue

Happy Tails Animal Rescue Providing Assisted Placement Services for pets needing to find a new home. It's like being a matchmaker, but for pets! Happy Tails Animal Rescue is an outreach group of concerned citizens caring for cats, kittens, puppies, and dogs.

The need for our efforts has emerged through many twists of fate and understanding of the immense need for assistance our local humane shelters need. They can not handle the problem on their own. We work in concert with Dr. Litfin and the staff at Lifelong Pet Health Care. Without their help, we would not be able to help the many pets that have come through our program to find wonderful happy forever homes!

Happy 4th of July Friends!

Do us a favor and go check all of your dog’s collars for up to date info. Confirm microchip info is also current.

If you don’t have a tag just add some masking tape with your phone number and dogs name to the inside of their collar or write on the inside with a sharpie.

Other info to include: your last name, Rabies tag #, Veterinarians number. If you’re pet is picked up by a Good Samaritan and taken to Helping Hands Humane Society (HHHS) the shelter staff will have an easier time connecting the two of you again!

Also, please keep an eye out for lost pets while you are out and about. Offer them water and try to find their owner. The may be scared so approach with caution and keep a slip leash in your vehicle. If you need assistance reach out to HHHS (or local animal shelter).

Be sure to file a report of found pet with how to get in touch with you. The lost pet can also be taken to HHHS (local animal shelter) and will probably be the first place an owner missing a pet will reach out to.

Thanks & Be safe!

We feel privileged to be able to honor Bruce Kirk Gerecke's memory, and his commitment to connecting forever pets in need of forever homes, through our rescues foster, adoption, and assisted placement programs.

Kirk was one of those wonderful people that never met a dog he didn't say hi to! We will remember him fondly and his love of Miss Izzy, an alumnus of our rescue.

If you can help please do! Fosters needed.

***🚨🚨URGENT🚨🚨***

Helping Hands needs your help!!!

With the new 30 day shelter-in-place order issued for Shawnee County, we would like to get AS MANY adoptable pets OUT of the building before Thursday 3/26/2020. We have cats who need placement, but our main need right now is placement for DOGS.

The animals will get daily basic care while they are here, but there are many who would benefit from more interaction and socialization - immediate placement is in their BEST interest.

If you are stuck at home and interested in fostering and having some four-legged company, here's what we need you to do:

1. Read the Foster Care Manualhttp://www.hhhstopeka.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Foster-Care-Manual.pdf

2. Submit the Foster Profile: Profile http://www.hhhstopeka.org/volunteer/how-to-become-a-foster/submit-a-foster-profile/

3. You can peruse adoptable dogs our website here to see which ones sound like the best fit for your home, but foster placement will be on a first-come, first-placed basis tomorrow: http://www.hhhstopeka.org/adopt/adoptable-pets/

If you submit a foster profile, you should get a call from us tomorrow after 8am!

If you cannot foster, you can share help by sharing this post and donating whatever amount you can! Your donations will help with things like purchasing foster supplies, keeping our building running, buying medical supplies for the animals, etc.

ALSO! If you would rather adopt than foster or do a foster to adopt, that is an option as well! We will do adoption appointments tomorrow (call us after 9am to schedule), or if you're fostering to potentially adopt, complete the foster steps listed above.

Please please please do not do this. 💗

Also, if you have room in your home, now would be an amazing time to adopt or foster a pet from your local shelter or rescue group.

A pet is a great companion to have while we all hunker down at home. Plus study’s show they can even help with anxiety, which is a huge bonus during this scary times.

Please stay safe and be good to one another friends!

Barn cats needing a Barn. Who needs a natural mouser?

Happy Tails Animal Rescue took in a few cats from a great TNR program in December, Kitty Cat Connection, Inc.

They asked if we had any neighbors or friends that might be interested in a few barn cats of their own. Please see the photo of the two sisters looking for a barn to call their own. ***Cats come fully vetted and fixed!***

The adoption fee is waived for the barn cat program donations accepted, but not required. More info here: http://www.kittycatconnection.org/barn-cat-program.html

Did I mention, the cats come fully vetted and spayed/neutered!

Adoption application required and a few tips that they offer will ensure that the cats imprint on their new home. They will even deliver the cats to your barn, garage or shed.

Any questions message me and I’ll put you in touch with them or contact them directly via the links above.

If you don't have a barn or room please consider donating and also sharing this post. Someone knows somebody that can give these girls a great home!

Thanks!
Kristi

They’re sweet besties in their foster home and they are SO ready to be loved in their forever home. This fully vetted pair is only $125! Please Share! ❤️❤️

End of era indeed, but what an amazing impact!

End of era indeed, but what an amazing impact!

“Meryl's passing marks the end of an era here at the Sanctuary. She was the last of the Vicktory Dogs in Best Friends’ care, and one of only two Vicktory dogs (along with Lucas) who was court-ordered to stay at the Sanctuary for life.

But even with that restriction, Meryl’s impact on the world has been immeasurable. She, along with all the Vicktory Dogs, helped to change the world's perception of dogs that look like them or who have been the victims of the abuse of a dog fighting ring.

Spending time with her, you’d never know what she had come from, and I’m sure she preferred it to be that way. Meryl fully lived in every single moment. Just a short walk into Dogtown and past headquarters, was Meryl’s special area. She’d oftentimes be found sun bathing on her ‘porch’ or on a golf cart ride with her caregivers. She had countless two-legged friends, and a good number of four-legged friends, too. Meryl embodied resilience in every way. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to know her, and to personally observe the lifechanging impact she had, not only on those who knew and loved her in person, but the world of fans who came to love her from afar during her time in Dogtown.” -Julie Castle, Best Friends CEO

None of us here can believe that Bo hasn't been adopted yet--he is such a smart and sweet boy who knows lots of commands and loves all his human pals at HHHS. 🐕‍🦺🦴😍

Bo is $0 to adopt! 🤯0️⃣💵

Probably his biggest roadblock is that he'd like to be the only pet in the household, but we know the the perfect potential pet parent is out there just waiting to adopt him!

P.S. If you can't adopt Bo but want to help him and his friends at the shelter, there are LOTS of ways to make a difference like volunteering, fostering, or donating.

If you like the mug pictured here, consider buying one of your own (plus tasty coffee) at Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co. using our code helpinghandshumanesociety15 to get 15% off your order, and Grounds & Hounds will donate to us! You could also attend our My Furry Valentine fundraiser on Saturday, February 8th from 1-4pm and enter our dollar raffle for the chance to win this mug and a bag of Grounds & Hounds coffee.

***If you're interested in adopting a pet from HHHS, please come in or give us a call! The process includes filling out an adoption profile, sitting down with an experience Adoption Counselor to get more information on the pet(s) you're interested in, and once you're approved for adoption, you'll have the chance to meet a great adoptable animal in fur-son. The process of completing an adoption after meeting an animal usually takes at least 30 minutes, so we don't begin any new adoptions within 30 minutes of our closing time. You may have the option of putting an animal in the adoption process and completing your adoption the next day. Adoption hours are Monday-Saturday 11:30am-6pm and Sunday 1-5pm. Please get in touch with us to have your other adoption questions answered!***

Friends, we need your help.

This is Mickey. Her dad, Michael, who is deaf, thought he'd lost her forever when a house fire destroyed everything they had a few days ago. He couldn't find his two dogs, and couldn't hear them. Unfortunately, one of the dogs died, but Mickey survived by hiding in the basement. She's suffering from smoke inhalation, damage to her eyes and fur, and everything that burned near her melted onto her skin.

We're in need of raising $2,000 to help with the emergency surgery Mickey needed and to help with her medical expenses moving forward. They've lost everything, including a friend. Let's help them out.

Anyone doing any island traveling in the near future? Reach out to this group, PAW BVI and lend a helping 🐾 to a pup needing a support human to fly stateside on your return trip. No cost to the human. 🥰

What a cool way to help!

An important - and easy! - way that you can help island animals in need is simply by allowing them to accompany you on your flight back to the US. 🌴

Most island rescue organizations like this one will take care of all the paperwork and supplies - all they need from you is to let a cutie like this fly with you.

Once in the US, the receiving rescue organization will take over from there. ✨

It's easier than you think to save a life - spread the word! 💛

As the shelters fill up and we struggle to do all we can, here are a few more lives we would like to save but need fosters to do so. We would be pulling from another shelter a couple hours from here. Please consider fostering. The rescue pays for the dogs needs while fostered. The foster is responsible for providing a loving indoor home and trips to and from adoption events. www.savingdeathrowdogs.com

If you can't foster, please consider sharing or sponsoring a small amount monthly to help with our dog's daily needs and boarding.

Info about each dog is found under their pictures. One of our current fosters was able to step up to help with Max (white dog).

Helping Hands 'inundated,' urging people to check for lost pets, offers adoption specials

If you’re missing a pet or know of someone who is missing theirs be sure to let them know to check for them at the Topeka, KS Helping Hands Humane Society (HHHS).

Also, do us a favor and help us spread the word, the shelter has MANY pets up for adoption and at a discounted rate until the 14th.

HHHS also needs foster families for litters of kittens and sponsors. There are a lot of ways to help, please check them out!

The shelter says they are “inundated” right now and are asking for help, including simply reminding anyone who recently lost a pet to stop by and reclaim them.

HELP! We beg you to please read and share this post! Lives are at risk and we need your help! Two of the cats pictured are already dead because we couldn't help them! Pictured here is not even a fraction of some of the inquiries we get to help colony cats. We have so many feral, semi feral and unadoptable cats in our care that we are turning away so many cats in need, especially colony cats whose lives are at risk every day.

Most of the requests we get are about colony cats who are being hurt or killed by horrible people, or cats that are no longer being fed due to "rules and regulations" and the cats are now starving. It's not just TNR with these cats, these cats need caught, vetted and moved to safe barn homes asap. But while waiting for barn homes they have to stay at our foster homes, but our foster homes are just beyond full to take in any more.

We are desperately looking for landowners with barns, shops, wineries, outbuildings, etc who can provide a safe home to 1 or more of our unadoptable cats. Not only will you be saving the cat you take in, but you are allowing us the room to take in 1 more cat who is in dire need. The process of adopting a barn cat is very easy, and we have 3 amazing ladies who run our Barn Cat Program who will be more than happy to speak to you about this program if you are interested in adopting a barn cat. Me, Britney James, Tammy Wilson Potts and Tina Damman are these ladies and we would be very happy to talk to you about adopting barn cats! Please call or text me, Britney at 573-356-2411, Tammy at 913-710-2028 or Tina at 816-588-0368 or message us on Facebook. Obviously we are pretty desperate for barn homes since we are putting our personal information here. Please do not message us about colony cats in need at this time, as we are already asking the public for help with the same problem!

We have about 4,300 followers and if a small fraction of you could read and share this post it would be a tremendous help! If you would like to find out more about our Barn Cat Program, you can easily do so by checking out our webpage here http://www.kittycatconnection.org/barn-cat-program.html. Thank you so much to our ongoing supporters, it's thanks to you that we can continue to save these innocent souls.

Our Story

Our founder began this work in recognition of an amazing cat, Sampson who touched her life in 2003-2004. He arrived as a stray tom-cat and turned out to be FeLV positive (Feline Leukemia positive). She worked with K-State Veterinary Teaching Hospital and her local veterinarian in hopes to manage his FelV condition. He did amazingly well and adapted to a cushy life spending a great deal of time with her own dogs and even joining them on walks. Unfortunately, he took a drastic turn for the worse in June of 2004. This experience caused our founder and made her realize how devastating apathy can be. Sampson’s life could have been extended if his original owner had simply immunized him against this fatal disease. The belief of Happy Tails Animal Rescue is simple; we, as a society, have domesticated these pets and therefore are responsible to provide them with love and proper medical care for their entire lives.
