🌱 TUESDAY TIPS AND TRICKS

Z is for Zinnia! 🌺
Zinnias are the one for summer fun! Zinnias are in for an easy win!
📣 Goooo, zinnias!

Yes, I’m definitely a cheerleader for Zinnias!

Amazing, colorful flowers from seed to bloom in 60-75 days. They practically grow on their own and are cut-and-come-again!

🌼 How to grow from seed:
Sow seeds directly in the garden after the last frost, some of us wait until after Mother’s Day.
Cover lightly with soil (about ¼ inch).
Water them in. That’s it!
You may already have viable seeds in the ground where last year’s zinnias were located.

🌞 Give them full sun, and in about 4 – 7 days you’ll see seedlings pop up.

💧 Water regularly and harvest frequently

✂️ Bonus tip:
The more flowers you cut, the more blooms the plant will produce.

Zinnias are one of those flowers that make you look like a great gardener… even if you did almost nothing. 🌸

I have zinnia seed packets from last year’s garden in the farm stand!
Come on! Grow ya’ some zinnies!

MONDAY MEMORIES!

Throwback to the farm stand on May 16, 2025!
The first thing I noticed watching this again was all that green grass. We sure had a lot more rain around this time last year! Hoping some of those showers find their way back to us soon.

‼️ SATURDAY EVENING FARM STAND NEWS‼️

🍯 Honeysuckle Jelly is stocked at the farm stand, folks!

If you grew up tasting the tiny drops of sweetness from honeysuckle blossoms, this jelly will take you right back.

Marcucci Kitchen has just delivered the first batch of summertime in a jar!

The flavor is light, fragrant, and sweet — almost like sunshine.
What makes it special?
• Made from real honeysuckle blossoms
• So unique and seasonal it’s not found in stores
• Tastes like the smell of summer evenings

Spread it on warm biscuits, toast, pancakes, or even pair it with cream cheese and add it to your charcuterie board. We like to drizzle it over vanilla ice cream!

It’s one of those old-fashioned, hard-to-find flavors that feels a little nostalgic and a little magical at the same time.
🌸 4 oz. and 8 oz. jars will be available at the farm stand while it lasts!
Once the honeysuckle blooms fade, this jelly is gone until next year.

Big THANK YOU to all the First Responders and all those that helped our Canyon and surrounding community neighbors!

Meet Petal Pete, smell the honeysuckle, grab some eggs, pick an herb, and get a tomato plant!

Is it the year of the hornworm? 🐛

Everybody loves honeysuckle including hummingbird moths (white-lined sphinx moth). We have already started to see several hovering around the honeysuckle in the evening.

They are beneficial pollinators right by now but turn into big fat green tomato and pepper plant munching hornworms later…
I think it may be the year of the hornworm, y’all!

Get your UV black-light flashlights ready for night-time hornworm hunting.

🌱 Tuesday Tips & Tricks - Hardening Off Hustle

Skipping this step can lead to damaged and delayed transplant growth!

❓ What it means:
Hardening off is the process of slowly introducing seedlings to outdoor conditions so they can adjust before being planted in the garden. Your seedlings may look big and strong indoors, but putting them straight outside can shock them. Sun, wind, and temperature swings are a lot for a new plant that’s only known indoor life.
That’s where hardening off comes in.

🕰️ How to do it
Day 1–2: Set plants outside in shade for 1–2 hours
Day 3–4: Increase to 3–4 hours, still mostly shade
Day 5–6: Give them some morning sun
Day 7+: They can usually handle full outdoor conditions
💨 ☀️ Why it matters:
- Prevents sunburned leaves
- Reduces transplant shock
- Helps plants develop stronger stems

I use cattle supplement tubs to harden off my pepper and tomato plants. The tubs are deep enough to provide seedlings a break from the wind and also keep the plants warm once they’re fully hardened off but before they’re put in the ground. The tubs are also useful for bottom-watering!

Pro Tip: if you leave plants outside you may need to add an overturned plastic produce crate over the top of them to keep birds/chickens from plucking the plants.

A little patience now leads to stronger, happier plants later.
