Throwback to my last pine straw project with a full crew of “helpers”. About to tackle the kennel today — not sure I’m inviting the helpers this round. 🐾

One of the most overlooked skills in dog training: spatial awareness.
5-month-old Spicoli is working on learning where his body is and how to use it.
Dogs aren’t automatically aware of where all four feet are or how their body moves through space—especially puppies. That’s something we have to teach.
In this session, I’m working on helping him understand where his rear end is, how to move different parts of his body independently, and how to navigate tight spaces with intention.
This kind of work builds body awareness, coordination, and confidence. It’s also the foundation for cleaner obedience, better leash skills, and safer movement in the real world.
When a dog understands their body, everything else in training gets clearer. 🐾❤️

Great Pyrenees recall… or should we say challenge? 😆

As a trainer, I don’t expect a 5-month-old Pyr like Spicoli to hear “come” and think, “Absolutely, right away!” These dogs were bred to think independently and make decisions without us—so recall has to be taught with intention, not assumed.

Right now, we’re at Level One: building value in the cue.

There are no expectations yet - I’m simply pairing the verbal “come” with very high-value rewards to create a strong, positive emotional response. The goal? When Spicoli hears “Come” it predicts something amazing every single time.
This is the foundation phase most people skip—and it’s exactly why recall “fails” later on.

With a Great Pyrenees, reliability doesn’t come from repetition alone… it comes from making “come” worth choosing 😉
This video shows exactly where we start. 🐾❤️
