Today was a great opportunity to put the skill we worked on in our weekend cattle clinic to work!

We had the opportunity to help a client gather and sort a few heifers that latched onto another herd!

In spite of some really feels and wild angus and a very flimsy pen held together by some clever wiring and a few prayers we managed to get the job done, ride a few colts and have a little fun!

All I can say is thank you so much to Bridle Bit Horsemanship and you’re wonderful cattle clinics that have taught me so much about being a better stockman and horseman!

We are truly blessed!

This little Colt from the Freeman Ranch sure is getting super gentle! Starting this one has been a lot of work but it’s paying off

Thanks again to Maia Fredrickson for being willing to ride this colt for me today and put some quality time on him! You may have poor taste in beef (just kidding) but you sure can get along with a colt!!

******** BUSINESS CHANGE ***********

Effective immediately Autumn and I will no longer be taking in Any type of problem horse unless the owner comes to us as a reference from a person who’s opinion WE value or the owner makes a strong attempt to prove to us that they are absolutely on board with what we believe is best for their horse.

That means, broncs, extremely rude horses and anything of that manner.

We’re not sick of the horses, We’re just no longer willing to work some of the people that come with them.

When you have a horse who has been very misguided the road to peace is often a very bumpy and winding path and I’ve found that in most cases the human is just not up for the journey.

We’ve been doing this quite a while, We’re over the need to prove ourselves and We’re past the point of trying to save every body.

We are realistic and we are fair. I am gentle as possible but firm as necessary ( on the owner as well as the horse ) I’m not paid to make you feel good I’m paid to help you get with your horse.

I will not sugar coat the reality of the situation you have created to save your feelings when the future of the horse hangs in the balance and if you aren’t willing to face what you have created then you will not like me or what I have to say and you probably won’t have the gumption to get right and change for your horse

Any horse I receive in this manner will progress on it’s time and if you aren’t happy with we’re the horse is in the time it has been with us then that is your problem. I will not hurt myself or the horse in an attempt to please you.

Autumn and I will also no longer work with anyone who considers themselves a “BREEDER”
Unless you come highly recommend or you prove to us that you are all in it for the horse and have a deep desire to see your product horses grow into something special.

So don’t call me expecting magic, it’s hard work and it can be as gritty as it is beautiful so if you want REAL help, call me or one of the various other trainers in this state who do good work, otherwise there are plenty of other people out there who will gladly take your money and tell you what you want to hear.

We had a great time at the Valhalla Ranch - Ranch Horse Sale ! We ran into some friends and made some new ones. Judy got absolutely the best new home we could have asked for, where she will be well loved, cared for, and spoiled and we are so happy for Leslie and her husband on the purchase of Judy! We sure will look forward to future sales they will host, there were a large variety of horses there, everything from jumpers, to ranch horses, and everything in between. Everything went smooth, aside from some rain, and it was in such a beautiful area! Matt, Kristen, and their team did a wonderful job putting this sale on!

*update* due to a new cattle situation the price has dropped to $150 per day.

Get ready for some fun!!!!

Alrighty folks after playing around with some ideas and talking to different folks about some things they would like to see and do in this area as far as clinics go. We’ve decided to start an exciting and fun new clinic series!

Our “Cowhorse Clinic Series” is going to be something new and fun unlike anything else offered in our area! These low stress clinics are designed for horses and riders of all skill and experience levels so that you can get your horse and yourself a little handier! If you’ve always dreamed of learning to cut, sort, rope or learn reining maneuver necessary to work cattle (stop, spin, change leads) then this is for you!

Something else we’ve noticed is that some folk just plain need the chance to practice! So if your already a pretty good hand and just want to give your young horse or old partner some experience on cattle or want to come play around with some good horse folks then these clinics are for you!

We’re going to offer folks the ability not only to learn a little and grow their partnership with their horse but to actually get affordable time and access to cattle so they can work on and improve their skills!

Our series will kick off in July, we will have a different area of focus for each day giving folks the opportunity to work on things that they find interesting without having to spend time on something that doesn’t interest them.

No matter what tack you use or what discipline you enjoy these clinics will be fun for everyone! Cows don’t care if you ride in a dressage saddle or a cutter!

Clinic Dates

July 10th: Cattle work basics
July 11th: Cutting for fun
July 17th: Practical reining maneuvers
July 18th: Ranch Roping

The cost to participate is $150 per day. Each clinic will kick off at 1030 Am and will go till folks have had enough or find a good spot to quit with their horse!

If anyone is wondering how I’ve been able to post so many videos in the last couple of hours.. it’s because we are enjoying some quality time in the vet... ahhh one of the Joys of being a horse owner!

So please keep Brady in your prayers as he’s a dear member of our Family and he’s sure helped teach a lot of people how to ride over the years!

Bronco billy

Well it’s been a minute since “Bronco Billy the wonder horse” went home but he was such a special little horse I just thought I should say something about it since I had the time and service!

We sure appreciate Donna Jo Leavitt for sending us this little guy and we can’t wait to follow his career as a 1D NFR Barrel horse or an NRCH snaffle bit Futurity champion whichever way she decides to go is up to her lol.

Best of luck guys and thanks again!

This cute little bay Filly is just about to go home and we’re so glad we got to spend some time with her.

Thanks again to Kinzie for helping me put some miles on her and to Nikki for sending her to us!

06/14/2021

My good buddy Kinzie came out to help me get some young horses ridden in the heat. She put a great ride on this bay filly for me who is just coming to the end of her 90 Days!

Thanks again for all your hard work Kinzie!

A good post from some fellow trainers down the road!

A good post from some fellow trainers down the road!

There’s three things every colt needs to do while they’re still a colt(young horse, 2-4 years old to be exact)

“They need a solid start”
Not the ol one day in the round pen and your on. If they’re a smaller colt and been handled a bunch, sure don’t spend all week or even more then a day tormenting them in a round pen. But if they’re 3 and big, never seen much more then a halter a couple times, they’re going to need more time to settle.
There’s no business getting on a worried horse and trying to be in a rush to get somewhere.

“They need to see country”
Now sure you can spend some time getting a handle so you’re not digging yourself a grave and probably having to walk home a good couple miles then enjoy a good ride. But they need outside riding before they learn how to lope circles and move on to the more meticulous stuff. There needs to be a purpose to what you’re working on so they learn they want to work their hearts out for you.

“They need time”
Time to sit for a couple months here and there. Time to grow more and mature mentally. They need time to just graze and travel country with other horses so they learn to be a horse.

If you ride a colt into the ground for 90 days or so and send it home. It sits for say maybe 2 weeks or maybe a month sometimes worse, they are not going to be the same horse til you knock that fresh off because they’ve never been taught how to ride off fresh. If you ride a colt consistently 5 days a week it gives them those Monday’s to make mistakes and learn. But if you give a colt a month or two off after riding good all summer or spring and pull em out to go back to work. That week they might be a little fresh but it will be the biggest life lessons for them.

Ok guys I’ve made an update to how we are going to work the Young Horse clinic at the end of May.

I’m not going to allow people to participate in one single day. I’ve got too much going on and that’s two much to keep track of.

So it’s now $130 for one class (either the morning groundwork or the evening riding portion) and that is both days of instruction.

You can participate in both classes.

So if you are interested please reach out or reach back out.
I apologize to those who have reached out and I haven’t been able to respond to. My service is poor and time is a rare commodity for me. However we’re close enough that it’s time to start putting thought into getting things going.

We will limit each class to 8 participants.

Ok guys last shot, we’re looking for a food truck or something that can serve a beef or cowboy realated dinner on June 12th for our cattle clinic with Amy and Steve Lesatz.

Being honest I can’t afford to have a chuck wagon come out and all of the barbecue folks I’ve called are booked up! So we need you’re help. If you’d like to enjoy a nice evening meal to the background of cowboy music and western stories!

We’ve had a busy few days here! Saturday we had the pleasure of having Spencer Bruce come out to make us better ranch ropers and better our skills with a rope. Brittnee came out and gave us a few training tips and tricks as well (can never know too much!) and brought us our new group of heifers. Sunday, we had our cattle clinic which was a great turn out and we sure had a blast spending time with everyone! We plan to do more in the future! Yesterday we got every single colt rode and worked with, and today we were able to take the day to run errands and get some things done outside of the ranch.

About US???

Well, that's just the thing, its not about us... its about the horse, that's what people have to understand! Our love for the horse is unrelenting and our dream is pretty simple, we want people to enjoy and love working with horses as much as we do, but to do that we have to help people understand that the change is all on you! Its one of the greatest joys in life and at times it can be very challenging and down right discouraging but if we could just help people see what they need to do to get right with their horse, then our job is done! That's why we would like to share our gained experience so folks can avoid the same mistakes we made along the way. That way, when their horse gets into trouble, they might have a better idea about what to do to help their horse understand and feel more comfortable. The more we learn the less we know but the least we can do is try to make our horses feel comfortable with what we ask of them. Autumn and I have been lucky enough to literally climb mountains with our horses. maybe we can help you and your horse climb a few of your own! happy trails.

Greetings. I'm still interested in lessons on starting with cattle, if you have cows these days. I messaged you and will look forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.
Hey folks! We are still alive we have just been busy doing what we love. Stay tuned for updates on our latest adventures!
Still looking for that perfect christmas present? Well here is a Great opportunity to get a super sweet gelding from the folks at Rugged Cross Performance Horses!
Neat article! Great horsemanship advice!
I have met Nahshon Cook only one time face to face, but I love what he has to say and I love to watch the expression of his horses. There are some unfortunate stereotypes when it comes to the world of dressage as there are with any dicipline but Nashoon blows them away with his skill and humility. No matter your discipline he needs to be on your list to go see as well!
For all of our friends who are looking to get out and grow with their horsemanship you NEED to go see Steve LeSatz and Amy LeSatz they are the real deal. They are a gem in the horsemanship community and lucky for us they live here in Colorado so you dont have to wait until they come back into town to go see them! So if your New Years resolution is to be better with your horse they need to be step #1 no matter your discipline!
Had a great time solving problems with Lacey yesterday! Can't wait for next time!
Pretty cool!
