We’ve had something very special happening behind the scenes…and today we’re finally ready to share it.

Our little family has grown! In the past few months, we’ve welcomed a beautiful little one into the Cottage through adoption. 🥹 Lucky for us, he’s Happy, Sleepy, and only occasionally Grumpy. 🤭

Adoption has always been a part of this story: my own beginnings, the heart behind this rescue, the roots of the many families we’ve supported, and now, in this incredible new chapter for our family.

As ecstatic as we are, this process came as a complete surprise; it has required a lot of pivoting on our end and some confusion on yours. So, thank you all for your endless patience, understanding, and love as we’ve navigated big changes, late nights, and a whole lot of joy. We’re settling into this new season with full hearts, and we can’t wait to slowly return to sharing more of the magic.

Welcome to the Cottage, Baby Bluebird! 🐦🩵 We love you more than you can even imagine, and can’t wait to see how you change this world too 🥹

🎉✨ Five Years of Saving Tiny Lives ✨🎉

Today marks five incredible years of rescue — and over 1,500 hamsters saved along the way (and that’s a low estimate)! 🐹💫

So many rescues burn out in the early years, and we’re so proud to still be standing. 💪 Thanks to our amazing team and the incredible community around us, we’ve grown our capacity, strengthened our Pet Retention Program, and become a lasting fixture in SoCal’s rescue world. 🏡🌿

We’re deeply grateful for every adopter, donor, foster, and friend who’s believed in us — and we can’t wait to share what’s next. Something magical is coming. ✨

🌿 Temporary Pause 🌿

Due to a family emergency, we are temporarily pausing adoptions and new intakes so we can focus on keeping day-to-day operations afloat. This was a difficult decision, but one we need to make for the wellbeing of our rescue family and the animals in our care. 💛

We will share updates as soon as we are able to reopen. In the meantime, we are so grateful for your patience, love, and support. Thank you for standing with us through every season. 🐹✨

✨ An incredible human stepped up to rescue and foster 25 hamsters from an emergency case until they can come to us — they want to stay anonymous, but let’s flood the comments with love and gratitude for them! ✨

Those 25 bring our total for just this week to 68 hamsters, and our all-time rescue total to 233. 💖 We are beyond capacity, every bin and shelf full — but we could never turn them away because we know it means hundreds more hamsters later 😭

Our immediate goal is $109 to cover the supplies already purchased for this case, but truthfully, every dollar helps with the enormous costs of food, bedding, and medical care for so many tiny lives.

My principal always reminds us (and our students) that “we can do hard things.” 💪 For me, one of those hard things is balancing life as a school-based children’s therapist WHILE running a hamster rescue! 🐹✨

This time of year is extra busy at school, so I may be a little slower on replies and posts. But please know—I will get to everything, and the animals always come first. 💖

🚨 We are officially out of permanent cage space. 🚨
Our rescue is overflowing, and while we’re being responsible and limiting new intakes… emergencies don’t care about our schedule. Hamsters still need somewhere safe to land. 🐹💔

🎉 Big news from our little kingdom! 🐹✨ In less than a year, we’ve doubled our storage space to keep up with the incredible donations and program supplies you’ve blessed us with.

This bigger unit means more room for cages, food, enrichment, adoption gear—and the ability to respond faster when hamsters need us most. 💗

We’re still dreaming (and searching!) for our forever home, but today, we’re celebrating this huge step forward. Thank you for making it possible. Every gift, every share, every bit of support is what keeps us growing. 🌱

We’re heading back out on the road — and this month, it’s ALL 🐹 Syrian hamsters 🐹 including tons of babies!

Meet our limited-edition Coffee Collection: Au Lait, Espresso, and Java! These 8-week-old Syrian sisters are full of fun, curiosity, and charm. It’s rare we have Syrian babies, and this trio is the perfect blend of sweet and bold. Adopt one of these gorgeous girls today! 💗

🌪️ 71 Hamsters in July… and Counting!
We’ve had an absolutely wild month—taking in 71 hamsters so far, with at least 3 more arriving next week (maybe more 👀).
📆 7/1 – 25 hamsters returned to us through our pet retention program
📆 7/6 – 12 sweet boys from Palm Springs Animal Shelter (the best shelter, btw!)
📆 7/8 – 17 adult dwarves (plus litters 😭) saved from a couple heartbreaking Facebook Marketplace situations
📆 7/16 – A mama Syrian and her 4 baby boys—all suffering from mites and anemia. They’re improving with treatment, but it’s a slow road to recovery.
📆 7/17 – We drove 6 hours round trip to pick up the Coffee Girls and their brother, Ghost (who has been adopted!) The girls are stunning and adoptable soon! ☕️

💫 What’s next? On 8/2 we’re heading back to Palm Springs to pick up 3 Syrian hamsters arriving from Arizona—possibly more! We’ll share a dedicated post soon, but we’re ready to coordinate adoptions in Palm Springs too. DM us if you’re interested 💗

And yes—we’re very aware of the guinea pig hoarding case in our region. Thanks to your past support, we’re holding steady and prepared to shift resources quickly if needed. We’ll always do what we can to protect the most vulnerable.
