A HUGE thank you to for sending us six of their adorable hamster mail boxes! 💌💗 These little bundles of joy are such a blessing—especially during times when we’re stretched just trying to keep up with food, bedding, and vet bills.

To be able to surprise our hamsters with fun, enriching goodies means the world to us and to them. Thank you for bringing some extra magic into their lives! 🐹✨

In less than 24 hours, you didn’t just meet our fundraising goal—you doubled it. We’re overwhelmed in the best way possible.

Rescue work can feel like shouting into the void sometimes. And beyond that, we know times are tough for everyone right now; it can feel scary to ask you to prioritize hamsters with us. But moments like this remind us that you’re out there, that you see the work, and that you care as deeply as we do. Every share, comment, and donation—big or small—was a bright light in a week that felt pretty dim.

Not the most glamorous photo… but definitely one of the most honest. 😔

This is what hamster rescue looks like right now: exhausted, overwhelmed, and still pushing forward; just like these mamas.

You might remember we took in 13 hamsters this week. That’s on top of the 32 (yes, THIRTY-TWO) who arrived earlier this month that I’ve been too busy to post about—and now we’ve got 9 brand new babies. That’s over 50 souls in July alone. And there are hundreds more who still need our help.

I’m tired. I’m full. And I’m doing everything I can to make space where there isn’t any. We’re working hard toward expanding into a bigger space to serve more animals—but in moments like this, it can feel so far away.

Once upon a time, there was a teeny, fluffy gentleman named Mr. Cottonball who was simply too adorable for his own good. He lived in a palace so charming and well-decorated that we simply cannot be trusted not to keep him forever.

This dashing robo comes with his entire gorgeous cage and accessories—fit for royalty! He’s polite, speedy (as all robos are), and surprisingly handleable for such a tiny whirlwind. Roborovskis aren’t for everyone… but for those who adore them, Mr. Cottonball might just be The One.

🌟 Meet Mokie 🌟

This special girl came to us from our friends at , who reached out knowing she needed extra TLC. Mokie has severe dental issues due to malnutrition that require regular trims and a soft, nutritious diet—care that we’re more than happy to provide here at SWRC. 🦷💕

We learned that Mokie was the beloved companion of a houseless individual and lived in a car for some time. She was lovingly fed human food scraps and cookies—whatever her caregiver could offer. In a truly selfless act of love, her person recently made the heartbreaking decision to turn her in, wanting better for her. 💔❤️

Now she’s settling into a cozy, quiet corner of our rescue, where she’ll have all the toys, space, and specialized care she needs. Mokie is sweet, calm, and so clearly grateful. While she’ll likely live out her life with us due to her ongoing needs, we’re open to an experienced, gentle adopter—we’ll happily teach you how to care for her, and she’s a total champ for her tooth trims.

And if the stars have aligned and you happen to be her former caregiver reading this: thank you. You did your best, and your love shines through. We’re honored to carry the torch. 🐹

We hate dads.
Not the grillin’, chillin’, fix-your-car kind. We’re talking about hamster dads—the guys who show up for five seconds, make a dozen babies, and vanish before the wheel even stops spinning. 🙄

Give just one male and one female hamster 28 weeks… and boom:
Over ONE MILLION hamsters. 😱
(Yes, we did the math. No, we’re not okay.)

This is why SoCal is flooded with unwanted, suffering hamsters—because no one tells the dads to stop. But we are. Loudly.

🔥 So here’s the deal:
Every daddy hamster at our rescue is fee-waived through the end of June to loving, responsible homes. Adopt one. Break the cycle. Become the hero their 942 children never had.

🚨 Hetty needs help—fast! 🚨

This gorgeous golden girl is in need of an adopter or a short-term foster by TOMORROW (yes, tomorrow 😬)! Hetty is a lovely Syrian hamster, about 1 year and 6 months old, currently located in La Crescenta, CA.

She comes with an amazing 75-gallon tank and all her accessories—you just bring the love. 💛

We’d love to get her adopted straightaway, but if that’s not possible, we’re also looking for a short-term foster who can scoop her up and give her a cozy landing spot until we can come get her.

Today was hamsterly amazing! 🐹✨ We were honored to be invited to Conejo Elementary to celebrate their year-end Field Day and join in their schoolwide read of The World According to Humphrey with a special presentation all about—what else?—hamsters! 💛📚

We had a blast teaching students about modern hamster care and introducing them to the magical world of Syrian and dwarf hamsters. To help start the conversation, we read Who Has a Pet Hamster? from —a fantastic story that shows what it really means to care for a tiny friend.

Huge thanks to Conejo Elementary for letting us be part of your celebration! We hope we planted the seeds of kindness, curiosity, and respect for these incredible little animals. 🌱💫

✨🐹 Meet the newest hambassador of SWRC… Princess Churro! 👑💛

Lovingly entrusted to us by our dear friends at , Churro is a truly special little lady. And no, it’s not the camera angle—her face really is a bit sideways 🥴

We suspect a birth defect, possibly brachycephaly or hydrocephaly, which is confirmed by her unique tooth situation. She’s missing her top incisors completely, so her bottom ones need regular trims. That, plus a soft gourmet menu and a whole lot of love, and she’s living her best life.

gave her the absolute best start, and we’re so honored to carry the torch and spoil her rotten here at the Cottage. Churro will live out her happily ever after with us, being adored just as she deserves. 💫
