Come on! Does Your Dog Really Need Starbucks?
For those of you not familiar with one of the worst consumerism products for dogs, let me introduce you to the Puppuccino. Also known as a Pup Cup, this commercially produced cup of "whipped cream" is reported to contain cream, mono and diglycerides, and carrageenan (found to cause insulin and GI issues).
By using their "Nutritional Facts" scale, you can deduct the coffee from a drink containing their whipped topping, multiply the quantity (to equal the size of a Puppuccino), and see what it's giving your dog nutritionally:
120-240 calories
12-24g of fat, of whichever 7-14g are saturated
4-8g of carbs
3-6g of sugar
1-2g of protein
40-80mg of cholesterol
10-20mg of sodium
There are variations of the concoction that are said to have "8 pumps of vanilla syrup" infused into it. Think we are talking about ACTUAL vanilla? Syrup ingredients include: Sugar, Water, Natural Flavors, Preservative: Potassium Sorbate (E202), Citric Acid (E330), Color: Caramel (E150d). Hmmmm....
Sugar is the first ingredient listed? Now the total intake would be up to around 400 calories and 44g of sugar you are giving your dog!
Dairy surprise: Mammals only consume milk during infancy. Among the 5,416 species of mammals, none consume milk as an adult, except humans!
So knowing that most dogs are to some degree lactose intolerant, that it contains chemicals shown to be dangerous to animals in studies, and that the nutritional info shows almost everything we try to avoid by giving a quality food diet, would you give your dog a Puppuccino?
I am not going to make generalizations as to why (but if anyone would care to enlighten me with a comment, I'd love to hear!). I will say... DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE, they do not feel hip by drinking Starbucks and anybody on social media that cares about your dog's health should not Like seeing it eating a cup of processed crap.
If you feel the need to take your pup to hang out at a coffee shop... Do Fido a favor and just hook them up a cool cup of their chic triple reverse osmosis filtered water. They will be just as thankful and a lot healthier for it.
