This guy is getting the hang of having a work ethic. He's stronger, carrying himself more comfortably, staying soft, and starting to understand what it means to be a riding horse.

He got a very late start in life, only being started under saddle as a 7-year-old last year.
It's important not to confuse age with education. Just because he's eight doesn't mean he's had eight years of learning.

So far, he's proving that a late start doesn't mean a horse can't still have a bright future.

What a wonderful surprise! We just received the year-end buckle from the California Reining Horse Association
šŸ†2025 SNAFFLE BIT/HACKAMORE RESERVE CHAMPIONšŸ†
(I wasn’t even aware we were in the running.)

2024-2025 were very challenging years as I prepared my Futurity prospect, ECLECTIC STARS, for the NRHA Futurity. We didn’t have ideal ground to work on, quite literally. Still, we pushed through, got creative, stayed on track, never lowered our expectations, and this filly just kept living up to them.

This time last year, we won both days of the Snaffle Bit/Hackamore class at the Hollywood Charity Show with a 71.5 and 71. Those wins earned enough year-end points for us to become the 2025 CRHA Snaffle Bit/Hackamore Reserve Champions.

Maybe the typo on the buckle actually does her justice šŸ˜‰ she really was electric.

Eclectic Stars (aka Ryan Reynolds) is now continuing to show and win successfully with her talented new owner, adding more buckles and trophies along the way.

Can't wait to get back in the show pen with my next prospects.

Slowly moving into arena work.

Teaching him to get comfortable with moving on a loose rein, work on steering, stops, and many many transitions until it's not scary anymore.

It's gonna take some time to get in the habit of learning, working, building physical and mental muscles, change from fear reactions into secure ones and to build the trust.
Here we go, starting from zero to make sure we don't miss anything on the way.

In training we build a language and when you learn enough words they start to form full sentences. Now it's starting to sound like a real conversation.

Target goals are a fun āœ… to mark, but let's be real - the target will always move - any person who reached a mark can attest that his eyes immediately moves to the next one, meaning, the reality of our day to day goal is the ongoing aim for improvement.

Personally I see everything that's yet to be perfect as a puzzle to be solved, finding the pieces is fun - I'd recommend this approach to anyone = learn to love the process and the road will be so much more exciting.
You'll soon find that the challenges are the fun part you get to put together, making what you build that much more meaningful.

Getting horses to use their back is just like our gym workouts - we have to move in the right position if we want to build the strength, the muscles and not get hurt; Learning how to use our bodies correctly takes time, patients and oh so many repetitions....

Strong healthy bodies need work, softness and lightness is earned through consistency.
Getting better means you have to do the work, daily.
Teach, improve and maintain. There Are no shortcuts.

When you build your horse gradually, you want to introduce them to different elements and different levels of pressure.

You want to introduce the right amount of emotional, mental, and physical challenges for where they are at in the current stage;
By doing so, you strengthen that bond and add another layer of cement to the foundation.
That’s how it holds.

I'm so proud of this green horse - taking in a new environment with different sounds, horses, smells, cows.
The trust we built gave him the confidence to listen to my cues and learn some new moves, notice a new element and react so well and composed.

3 months in - can't wait to see what's next for this cool guy.

Special thanks to Gibson ranch for hosting. ā¤ļø We'll be back!

Show up every day, do the work, get stronger, get better, get confident.
It's not magic, it's reining.
