Over the second half of Bella’s board and train program I started introducing the remote collar while continuing to build on the foundations she already had from previous private lessons.

Before training, Bella struggled to stay engaged in public spaces and outdoor environments, often barking or trying to chase wildlife.

Bella has been gaining freedoms she previously didn’t have access to and while there is still work to be done at home, both Bella and her owners now have the tools and communication to continue progressing.

Bella spent her second day of training refreshing and practicing the skills she has already been working on through previous lessons over the last couple months.

Making sure foundational behaviors remain solid before progressing further helps create clearer communication and more reliable long term results throughout training.

The first day is less about obedience and more about helping her adjust to a completely new environment, routine, and structure.

Day 1 is focused on decompression, observation, and settling in before continuing to build on the foundation she already has from previous training.

Welcome Bella 👋

Bella already has a solid foundation from her private lessons earlier this year and during her board and train we’ll be continuing to build on that work while beginning her introduction to remote collar training.

The goals throughout this program are clearer communication, improved reliability, improved recall and off leash responsiveness around distractions and wildlife, and helping Bella practice calmer, more respectful behavior around the other animals in the home.

Looking forward to sharing her progress!

Azul and I covered just over 4 miles this morning through some wooded trails🌲

These hikes are something I’ve recently started offering on a limited basis for select dogs, including some boarding dogs like Azul, as a way to provide more structured exercise, enrichment, and exposure outside of the normal day to day activities. They also naturally aide in ongoing training in real world environments.

Azul did absolutely amazing today! 🐾🌿

Welcome back, Ulla! 👋

Ulla first trained with me back in 2023 earlier in my training career. This past weekend she came back for a refresher while her family was out of town.

Along with brushing up on her obedience and manners, we focused on door manners. Ulla tends to rush through doors once she is released, which can be potentially risky for anyone in her path given her size and strength.

In the first half of this video, we’re building impulse control and clear expectations. Just because a doors opens doesn’t mean she can bulldoze through it. The last couple clips show Ulla learning how to slow down her exit when she hears her release word “break”. Even in a few short days, Ulla made some great progress with her manners!

We’re focusing on calm, neutral behavior with food around. Here she’s holding “place” while eating with Buddy on his place nearby. Sessions like this help build trust, neutrality, and safer habits in a multi-dog home.
