Sabre's Place

Sabre's Place Sabre the Wonder Dog! Even without eyes, he sees what is important in life, in the present, and in He has been a blessing to our home and our pack.

Although tragedy hit Sabre on March 5, nothing can get a good dog down. Because of his local celebrity status, it was suggested that he get his own Facebook account, Instagram, and blog. This is a big undertaking for a little guy who does not have opposable thumbs! Ironically, Sabre came to our family from Black Dog Animal Rescue in Cheyenne, WY in June 2014. And proof that adopting older dogs can

be so rewarding (as he was 10 years young at the time). In March of 2015 he was attacked by another dog. We do not know why it happened, how it happened, or exactly what happened... but we do know Sabre is beyond that and in his life it was ancient history. This little guy has taught me so much about living in the present, valuing the important things in life, and sometimes you can see so much more without using your eyes. I hope you can follow along and enjoy his adventures, successes, challenges, and rewards. And that you too can learn what Sabre can show us about living life.

Can it really be 2 years already? It still feels like yesterday you were in my arms, everywhere together. Two years since my sweet soul baby has passed? I think of Sweet Sabre every day and still miss him as much as the first day he was gone. I will cherish the memories and the people he met. Godspeed Sweet Sabre - until we meet again. 🐾🌈🐢

It's been a year..... I can't believe it's been a year. So much has happened yet it seems to have gone so fast. It feels like yesterday still that Sabre was here, happy and healthy. Not a day goes by that I don't think about this very special pup. Today I will reflect on those good times, the snuggles, the walks, the adventures, and the beers. Cheers my little friend.

It's been 3 months....but it still hurts like it was yesterday. I miss Sabre in indescribable ways.. the crocus have bloomed, and every year Sabre would take a spring sniff. I've found myself reflecting on the "lasts" that sabre had experienced .. last crocus, last grassy sunny day. Last wheeling trip. Last snow...and the list goes on.

I have decided to adopt another dog, meet Altair. He is no Sabre, but he should not be. He is Altair. He is definitely a young dog, he's sassy and spicy, he is an incredible ham, I'm pretty certain he's not a Pom, and not a cuddler. He's like an anti-Sabre, but charming in his own way. He came from a rescue in Houston.....and when I picked him up - he found a butterfly that fluttered around him for several minutes. I want to believe this was Sabres spirit helping Altair and I.

We are getting to know each other and become comfortable with each other. We are projects for each other I think.

Hugs my friends....

There have been some really special memorial gifts that people have sent.... Aunt Maureen with the photo collage which is proudly in my office above where Sabre slept while I was working.... My dear friend Kerry sent the angel holding the pup that warms my heart every time I look at it (and is below my work monitor), and the lighted angel pup memorial that I have with my lighted paw prints from Mike and Cindy (and Aunt Patty) near my bird bath.... These tokens mean so much to me as I move about my home and can see them while feeling his presence in my soul. Thank you.

Sabre was a frequent guest at Something Brewery and the B Something Running/Walking Club since the beginning. We were always welcomed by the beer slingers, guests and food trucks alike who kept Sabre stocked with snacks and loves . My favorite story was one afternoon while sitting at the bar, Sabre was at my feet and I was staring off into space trying to solve the world's problems. Out of the blue Jeremy looks at me and says "are you missing something?" I looked down and in a panic realized Sabre was gone. Jeremy rather quickly showed me that Sabre had made himself at home behind the bar taking a snooze after exploring for a bit. This place was not only my escape from reality, but a place I know I could be welcomed with Sabre in tow, no questions. Thank you guys for being there when I needed you!

This journey would have never even existed with Dr Kenny Siu and all the staff and students Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital The hours I spent sitting in the parking lot, the late night emails, the extra calls to check and visit Sabre, and most importantly the gold star care with the most advanced science available. Sabre was always treated like royalty and I was always welcomed and cared for even when I was most worried or hysterical. I cannot say enough about the quality of care, emotional and physical, that has to offer, and how Dr. Siu was our saving grace. Special thanks and eternal appreciation. Note: Vega is still a patient, so they can't get rid of me that easy ;)

Special shout out and thank you to Dr Edoff with Longevity and Wellness Veterinary Services, LLC .... She kept Sabres chi balanced and supported his whole body health with acupuncture, laser therapy and assisi treatments. She also kept me grounded in his care and health. We enjoyed discussions about bees and adventures on the front yard while Sabre was able to get his treatments while taking in the smells and sounds of nature. I'm forever grateful to Dr Edoff and her support of Sabres care.

I promised to share some of my favorite photos and special appreciation for the people that were instrumental in Sabre's wellbeing. Today I need to share how much at helped keep Sabre comfortable and healthy. She also was critical at letting me talk through the weeks progress and provide an objective perspective on Sabres care and health. I know Sabre loved his Spaw Massages from Chelsea, but she also helped me keep my sanity too.

If you have a pup with orthopedic challenges, or an older pet who needs some extra therapy to stay strong and manage pain, I cannot recommend more. They are truly angels!
