This past week, we had a new addition join our PB Competition Team 🩵 All treats, no tricks here! 🎃

After searching for nearly 6 months, we found Bella her perfect match with Birdy. Finding a new horse is never an easy task. It can be time consuming, emotionally taxing, and overwhelming at times. Just when you think you find the right one, they don’t have a clean vet check. You spend time going to different states and cities only to find out that you don’t click as well with the horse as you’d hoped. Some bonds take time, but I always say that when you know, you know! And when it’s meant to be, it comes easily.

After an 18 hour day on Wednesday to try horses out, we found “the one”! We had some amazing horses we saw, but the connection between these two was noticeable. On Friday, Kevin (Bella’s super dad) and I made the trip north to vet check and pick up her new ride. Bella had no idea that we had taken a trailer, so when she came to the barn for her weekly lesson late in the evening, she was surprised to see her horse for the lesson was Birdy! 🥹🩵

Thank you Ana and Kevin for trusting me with helping find Bella her teammate! This B&B pair is going to be one to watch! 😍🤠🤩

Thank you Lacey Lockard for your help once again!🩵

This is a long over due post, but every time I have sat down to write it, I think 💭 “this doesn’t even scratch the surface of Aimen.”

Aimen is a mom of four young kids, two of which have also shown an interest in riding! While being a mom is difficult, being a mom that wants to barrel race is another level of hard! 😵‍💫 Yet, every day, Aimen shows up with grace, passion, desire to learn, and happiness. Her smile is contagious, she never fails to put a smile on everyone else’s faces!

It takes a great amount of courage to try something new as an adult, but Aimen has put her head down to work and has a great support system behind her. Her husband has been an amazing source of encouragement. 🩵 We are so blessed to work with the coolest people out there!

Just a short year ago, Aimen showed up for her first lesson. 6 months ago, she got her first barrel horse (love you Kitty). Saturday, she won her first check! 🎉 Thank you Aimen for being you. Keep putting the work in and it will keep paying off!! 💪

On this week’s brag list, we have a special shoutout to Ella & her parents!

We are so proud of Ella for remaining committed to her goals, being steward of her horse, and working extremely hard! We are also so proud of Ella’s moms for doing everything in their power to help Ella reach her dreams! Her parents have worked hard to gain an understanding of “barrel horses” which is a totally complex world to navigate!

After receiving some bummer news about her new prospect, they were worried about missing the start of the new year. Not wanting to get set back again after taking a pause to focus on training instead of competing, we reached out to our amazing community and found a horse for Ella to jump jockey through the remainder of the year! 🙌❤️‍🩹 Thank you Melissa for trusting us with “Tia” and giving us the opportunity of a lifetime!

Big things in store for our girl Ella🩵 They already killed it with only a few runs under their belt, winning their first rodeo performance at the Charlie Sampson rodeo this last weekend and clocking in the 2D at the WCBR jackpot at CRC! 🤩

We would love to congratulate our PB Performance student, Ava, on earning our “Student of the Month” award! Ava has been chosen as November’s student of the month for her hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed! Her trainer, Coach Maddie, has selected her for she has seen exemplary dedication, performance, and personal growth in her time working with Ava.

What is your name? “Ava Jane Stephens”

What lesson horse do you ride? “Classy 💗”

How long have you been riding with PB Performance Horses? “5 months”

What motivates you to show up and work as hard as you do? “What motivates me to come to each lesson is being the only person in my family that is a part of the horse world and not allowing my journey alone to set me back. As well as the dedication amongst Maddie, Payton, Sofia and the barrel racing team.”

What are some goals for the end of 2026, as well as the following year? “My goals for the end of 2026 is learning a consistent and confident lope.
My goals for 2027 is to run a cruise through and compete in a local race.”
What future goals do you hope to pursue? “My goals for the future are to own my own horse and compete on the Cal Poly SLO rodeo team.”

✨ DID YOU KNOW THAT…?✨

You don’t have to have years of experience, your own horse, or a list of accomplishments to start working toward your goals.

Every accomplished rider was once a beginner, and every great partnership started somewhere. We believe in meeting riders where they are, helping them build confidence and skills, and giving them the tools to keep progressing.

You don’t have to be where you want to be today. You just have to be willing to learn and keep showing up!! 🩵

Reach out to us today to let us help you achieve your goals!

Rain doesn’t stop a rodeo, and it doesn’t stop us from showing up and putting the work in! 🤠🐴

We don’t cancel lessons just because rain is in the forecast. Being a horseman means showing up even when the weather isn’t perfect. Trust me, your trainers don’t want to be slopping in the wet and mud any more than you do 😆

Horses depend on us every single day, regardless of whether it’s sunny, raining, cold, or inconvenient. We believe our students should learn that responsibility long before they ever own a horse.

One day, many of our students will have horses of their own that will depend on them for their care, comfort, exercise, and well-being every single day. We hold our students to that same standard now because we aren’t just teaching them how to ride, but preparing them to be responsible, knowledgeable horse owners and setting them up for success long after they leave our program.

Beyond being responsible, the truth is, there is SO much more to horses than just riding! There’s learning how to properly care for them, understanding their behavior, grooming, feeding, maintaining equipment, knowing the proper terminology, and building a relationship with an animal that depends on you to advocate for them. Some of the most valuable lessons happen on the ground, outside the saddle, and on the days when things don’t go exactly as planned.

Of course, our horses’ safety and well-being always come first. But a little rain? That’s an opportunity to learn something new, build responsibility, and understand what being a true horseman really means.

At PB Performance Horses, we don’t just build better riders, but build true horsemen and women, one rainy day lesson at a time.🌧️

Welcome to the family “Kat” aka Samona Dan Jet 🩵 our newest barrel lesson horse!

I have a whole post coming on serendipity and how sometimes things transition seamless into your life. That is how this decision worked out for us! 🤠 The last couple weeks have been a series of serendipitous events. Things have worked out better than I ever could have imagined they would!

I always prefer to find horses that aren’t actually listed for sale, and I prefer to sell horses the same way too. When Leslie texted me saying she was thinking about selling her amazing mare, Kat, I knew that I had to figure out a way to make it happen. Her sire is the same as my very first horse I ever owned “Iris” a.k.a. RDJ Homespun Legend. I loved that horse more than anything for what she taught me, and I have always wished that my high school rodeo horses could have stayed with me forever to teach the next generation. But life happened, I couldn’t keep more than a few horses, so I had to make the hard decision to let some of them go to new homes when I went to college.

In a full circle moment, I was able to pick up Kat on Friday and bring her to join our lesson program. These horses are more than just teachers. They truly become a part of our family. I’m so thankful Leslie Shepard let her be ours! 🙏🩵🙏🩵 Here is to another amazing journey. Don’t forget to say hi to her at the barn!
