Yesterday was a full day at the rescue with our Farrier doing trims but that didn't stop Henry from getting a Magna Wave session for his Epm.
Thank you Lindsay for always making sure our guys feel better. If you have a horse with Epm or sore muscles Magna Wave is very beneficial for them. We often get a lot of questions on what is Epm and what does it effect and how do horses get it.

What is EPM:
Protozoa is a single-cell organism that contains a nucleus and derives nutrition from the host. The protozoa that causes EPM is ingested from contaminated feed or water, that contain the protozoan sarcocystis neurona. The protozoa undergo multiplication in extra-neural tissues and then attacks the central nervous system. The common signs of EPM include of depression, ataxia and paresis, atrophy, obscure lameness, and personality change. This can impact everyday behavior and athletic performance in the arena.

The main definitive host in the United States is the opossum. The opossum obtains the protozoan by consuming tissue from an infected intermediate host. There is a brief prepatent period, then the infected sporocysts are passed in the f***s, then ingested by the horse.

Horse with EPM:
Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a neurological disease that affects the central nervous system in horses. Not only is EPM detrimental to the horse’s health, it can affect performance as well. When a horse is diagnosed with EPM, it leads to months of medications and recovery time, which can alter plans for training and shows. It is essential to have a veterinarian involved with the process to determine the best medication and plan for the horse.
