Sometimes we hesitate to share new arrivals. Not because they don’t matter but because rescue isn’t always predictable. There are times when end of life care may be the most humane outcome, and we never want our community to think we don’t fight with everything we have for these animals or that we take the easy way out. We don’t. Every decision we make is guided by our veterinarian and rooted in doing what is truly best for the animal. This weekend, we welcomed Orion to our herd. We found him listed for free on Facebook as a “pasture pet.” Orion has foundered, a condition that affects the tissues inside the hoof and can cause pain and mobility challenges. Horses like Orion are often overlooked, and sadly free horses are a kill buyer’s dream. Not many people are searching for horses who need specialized care. We acted quickly and picked him up Saturday. We were hesitant to introduce him right away because severe founder cases can have uncertain outcomes. But we don’t know Orion’s outcome. What we do know is that he deserves a chance, a name, and a safe place to land. He will be seeing our vet this week so we can fully understand his condition and determine the best path forward for him. It’s important for us to share even the hard parts of rescue, because animals don’t stop deserving love just because their future is unclear. No matter what comes next, Orion will always be put first and given compassionate, thoughtful care every step of the way. Welcome, Orion. We are honored to have found you and excited to learn what the future holds together. 🐴🤍
