Master Wolf with Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. has to do a mini-fundraiser to raise $800 to cover Cookie’s expenses while we try to find a foster and hopefully adopter for him and transport him from New Orleans, Louisiana to California.
Cookie was originally a surrender dog and apart from his prior adoption fees, we never received any pledges. In total we are out of pocket $800 on Cookie for his medical costs and supplies. Bills and Income/Expense chart attached. Please help us recoup our expenses THUS FAR as we plan to bring him home.

I experienced trauma today after Master Wolf left the Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. sanctuary to take Sapphy for her surgical removal of her shoulder mass and spay while we figured out how to cover costs…the sanctuary huskies alerted me to a 6 foot snake which I corralled for 45 minutes with “10” huskies surrounding until Tim got home to safely remove and re-home by flinging it across the fence (sparing you the details and 4” wide). This afternoon I experienced 2 episodes of crying breakdowns trauma. It not easy taking care of the huskies! Trust me!! Here are photos of the snake and Sapphy post spay and mass removal.

🐾 AB 519 targets predatory pet brokers who profit from cruelly bred puppies, kittens and rabbits. Let’s close the loopholes and protect animals.

Dear Senator,

As a constituent in your district, I strongly urge you to vote YES on AB 519, a critical bill that will prohibit predatory puppy and kitten brokers from selling or transferring dogs, cats or rabbits for profit in our state.

AB 519, part of a three-bill package designed to close the final valve of the puppy mill pipeline into California, is focused on ending the “puppy broker” loophole in current legislation. Puppy brokers obtain puppies in bulk from commercial breeders and resell them to consumers, often online. They present themselves as trustworthy, claiming that the animals they sell come from “highly regulated” breeders. However, puppy brokering is a predatory industry that hides cruel breeding practices and misleads consumers with wholesome images and minimal information about the animals they are purchasing. This practice allows puppy mills — which are illegal in our state — to continue to reach Californians at a time when our shelters are overflowing with adoptable pets.

AB 519 will prohibit pet sales by brokers, finally putting a stop to predatory middlemen who operate online and promote cruel. large-scale, profit-driven breeding practices. This bill does not harm responsible breeders but protects consumers from unknowingly purchasing animals from deceptive brokers.

California has the opportunity to ensure that we no longer import cruelty in our state. I urge you to support AB 519!

PUPDATES: When we rescued seniors Juni+Rio from the SEEACA shelter on 5/24/2025 they were vetted that night at an ER vet and brought to our sanctuary. After 2 weeks of prescribed cough pills+doxycycline, they needed more vetting and got Polyflex penicillin injections + a concoction of meds. Because we maintain a sanctuary and not a holding facility for adoptable dogs, we have been kicking ourselves since there were no protocols in place for Rio & Juni and unfortunately the viral infection spread to others which required nearly daily visits to Dr. V at Angel Care animal hospital for more polyflex+meds. Baloo also wasn't feeling well and after many attempts I got him to the vet (different ailment). On 6/17 Rio got his neuter and eye ablation surgery and Juni had the tennis ball sized lumps (benign) removed from under her chest plus some corneal ulcers removed from her eye. Then of course, I spilled juice straight out of a roasting pan while taking it out of the oven for the pups’ daily meal and got 2nd degree burns! WHEW!!!! During this time we received a huge box of goodies for the pups from Mike Scharnagl to make us feel appreciated. Then, Liz went to the SD Fair on 6/22 to showcase 3 of our foster pups with fosters in tow…things did not work out as planned but Frosty’s foster Billy Hilt is planning to adopt Frosty, Lola’s foster Laura Schooping-Medina adopted Lola to live life with her husky Mama Greta, and Kingston featured in a video highlighting the event got seen and placed in a foster home as of yesterday. On 6/26 Luna went to the oncologist VCA Carlsbad to get her liver tested and Xray (looking great) but Freckles tagged along because it was her time to go so we bid farewell. Life and Death has been dramatic. We are now trying to celebrate the BEST of Summer and Ryder and Summit (both calendar repeats) are helping us get in that mood. Let’s give a shout out to ALL the huskies and how much work they require on a daily basis but are so worth it. Please protect your pets over the July 4th weekend.
