🐍 Journey would like everyone to know she successfully located, retrieved, and proudly presented today’s “afternoon snack.”

I would like everyone to know that was absolutely not on the meal plan.

🧠 One of the coolest things about living with dogs is watching instincts that were carefully selected over thousands of years show up in everyday life. For Journey, finding critters, tracking scents, and carrying around her “prize” isn’t bad behavior, it’s her brain doing exactly what it was designed to do.

That’s why fulfillment is about more than exercise. Dogs need opportunities to sniff, search, explore, and engage with the world around them. The goal isn’t to eliminate instincts—it’s to give them safe outlets for them.

Thankfully, the snake and Journey both walked away unharmed. Though Journey is still convinced she deserved recognition for a successful hunt. 🐾

👇 What’s the weirdest “treasure” your dog has proudly brought you? Mine apparently thinks reptiles count as gifts now. 🐍🐾

✈️ Nothing tests your emotional stability quite like getting excited for vacation… and then seeing dog hair on your pants right before you takeoff. 🥲

🏆 So if you’re handing your pets over to a petsitter, help set everyone up for success before you leave. The more detailed your instructions are, the less guesswork there is—and the safer and less stressful it is for your pets.

📝 As a veterinarian and dog mom, a few things I always recommend including:
• Exact brand, quantity, and feeding times for meals
• Medication and supplement instructions (a pill organizer can make this SO much easier)
• Your regular veterinarian + nearest emergency clinic information
• Pet insurance info/policy number if applicable
• An emergency contact in case your sitter can’t reach you
• Favorite activities, routines, and comfort items
• Their personal “bad decision tendencies” 😂
(countersurfing, sock stealing, trash diving, door darting, etc.)

The little details matter because your pets can’t explain their routine—but their behavior absolutely will if something feels off.

🧘 A prepared petsitter gives you a much better chance of actually enjoying your vacation instead of texting “How are they?” every 11 minutes.

Save this before your next trip so you’re not trying to remember everything while packing. ✈️🐾

🧠 When our running partner has four legs, logically our brain knows the day will come when their bodies can no longer keep up with their heart and their desire to go.

💔 Somehow the message gets derailed on its way to our heart.

🐶 Finn has been my ever loyal, ever faithful, ever ready running partner—alongside me for eight marathon training cycles, 6 half marathons, and countless miles logged just because we could.

Now at 11 years old, I’m making the hard but loving decision to play the long game with him. That means shorter outings, slower paces, more sniff breaks, and recognizing that “motion is medicine” still matters deeply…it just looks different as our pets age.

Leaving him behind for the longer and faster morning runs crushes me in a way I wasn’t prepared for. Because while his mind still says “let’s go,” my job is to protect the body that has carried him so faithfully through every mile beside me.

And that doesn’t mean life gets smaller. It means I become more intentional about meeting his needs in ways that support both his body and his mind—mental enrichment, movement that feels good, adventures at his pace, and making sure he still gets to be part of the moments he loves.

This is part of the commitment we make when we bring a pet into our lives. Loving them enough to adjust with them. Loving them enough to protect their future comfort, even when it breaks our own heart a little in the process.

If you’re in this season with your dog too, I see you. 🤍

Somebody please slow down the clock…
Elementary school ✅ Middle school here we come. But first, summer chaos and shenanigans are on deck!

☀️ It’s so fun to feel his excitement and joy that comes with the change in routine and looser schedules of summertime; but as a working mom I get a little angst with balancing all of that too. Knowing I only have a few more of these ahead, I’m going to embrace the fun and do my best to find joy in the no-schedule schedule.

🙋‍♀️ Am I the only one that feels this?
