This boy right here may have been intended to help S, but he has probably helped me the most. About 6 weeks ago I went to put his halter on from the wrong angle. Moose is very head shy as a result of what we assume were past abuses; he requires his halter to be put on while facing him head-on. Not from the side as is more traditional. I know this and I usually listen to his wishes. Anyway, he whipped his massive-but-oh-so-cute head around, which collided with my head. I immediately saw “stars” and thought I was going to vomit. I knew I had a concussion. I stumbled out to the pasture and laid down; I couldn’t make it to the house so I went as far as I could. I swear Moose knew something was wrong because he immediately walked up to me, sniffed, and then just stood above me blocking the hot sun and keeping watch for predators. He only left his post when I was finally able to stand. He didn’t mean to hurt me; I ignored his needs and he was scared so he reacted instinctively. Absolutely my mistake and one I will not make again. I am thankful Moose took care of me like I was a member of his herd. I could not love him any more than I do. He is perfection.
