Shelby Update 🐾❤️

After 9 long days in the hospital and major surgery on Thursday, Shelby is finally HOME with her foster family.

This sweet girl has been through so much. What started as a sudden medical emergency turned into days of hospitalization and surgery to save her life. Thanks to the incredible dedication of our ride-or-die veterinarians and their amazing staff, Shelby made it through.

Now she’s exactly where she needs to be — being pampered, snuggled, and resting while her body heals.

While we are so relieved she is home, her veterinary care has been extensive and very expensive. Emergency hospitalization, surgery, and ongoing care have created a large medical bill for the rescue.

Shelby Update

Shelby went into surgery this afternoon, and we wanted to share an update with everyone who has been thinking about her and supporting her. ❤️

During surgery, the vet discovered that Shelby had a partial torsion of her spleen, and the blood vessels supplying it had begun to die off. Unfortunately, there was no way to save the spleen, and it had to be surgically removed.

The good news is that the source of her internal bleeding was found, and the surgery was completed. Shelby is now out of surgery and recovering.

She is not out of the woods yet, and the next 24–48 hours will be critical as her body stabilizes and the vet continues to monitor her closely. Right now, we are just thankful that the underlying issue was identified and addressed.

Please continue to keep Shelby in your thoughts and prayers as she fights to recover. We will continue to update as we know more.

A huge shout out to our ride-or-die veterinarians and staff, who have always stayed steadfast and never give up easily. They are a big part of the reason our rescue has been able to save so many animals over the past 20 years. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and care.

Shelby Update 🐾

We wanted to give everyone an update on sweet Shelby.

There is some cautious good news. Shelby’s platelet count has come up and her HCT has improved, which is encouraging. She is also eating and drinking, which we are so happy to see.

Unfortunately, Shelby still has blood in her abdomen, and the biggest concern right now continues to be her spleen. Because of how unstable she was when she first arrived, surgery was not an option at that time. The veterinary team needed to stabilize her first.

At this point, however, surgery is looking more and more likely as the next step so the veterinarians can determine the root cause of the internal bleeding.

Shelby remains hospitalized and under close monitoring while the veterinary team decides the safest time to move forward.

Her care has been extremely intensive and very costly, but we are committed to giving Shelby every chance she deserves. If you are able to help, donations toward her ongoing medical care would mean the world to us and to Shelby. Every share, prayer, and donation truly helps.

🚨 Urgent — Welcome Shelby to Rescue 🚨

Please help us welcome Shelby to Water’s Edge Great Dane Rescue… a sweet 4.5-year-old girl whose story has taken an unexpected and heartbreaking turn.

Shelby came to us after her beloved owner passed away. While we expected a period of adjustment and grief, what we did not know was that Shelby was quietly fighting something much more serious.

On Thursday, Shelby began declining rapidly and was rushed to our veterinary hospital in circulatory failure. Our incredible veterinary team immediately jumped into action to stabilize her and run diagnostics. What they discovered is very concerning — Shelby’s platelets are dangerously low, and she is experiencing internal bleeding. At this time, we still do not know the underlying cause.

Since Thursday, Shelby has been under intensive monitoring and care. Today she showed a small spark of improvement — a little brighter, but still very weak. We are praying her platelet levels will begin to rise and that her body will respond to treatment. She is not out of danger yet.

As you can imagine, the emergency care, hospitalization, diagnostics, and ongoing treatment are creating significant veterinary expenses very quickly. We are committed to giving Shelby every chance possible — but we need your help.

Welcome Jax! 🐾

This handsome young guy was found starving and running as a stray until some kind women stepped in and contacted us for help. His previous owners were located but sadly chose not to take him back. Over the past 2 months, Jax has gained weight, been neutered, and has blossomed into a healthy, happy boy!

At just under 1.5 years old, Jax is full of love and personality. He has quickly stolen all of our hearts in rescue and does the same with everyone he meets. He’s doing great with basic commands and crate training, and while he still needs some leash work, he’s eager to please and learns fast.

Jax gets along well with both big and small dogs and would do best in a home with other dogs and an active family who will include him in adventures and fun outings. We absolutely adore this boy and know his perfect family is out there! ❤️

🐶 FRENCHIE UPDATE! 🐶

I know many of you have been awaiting this update!

For those who may not know, back in October we took in 7 French Bulldogs from a large puppy mill in Georgia. The owners are currently facing neglect and cruelty charges.

When these babies arrived, they were truly shut down—suffering from severe skin infections, ear infections, mange, heartworms, heavy flea infestations, and intestinal parasites.

Fast forward to now… look at them! 💪✨
They have made incredible progress. Their skin and ears have healed, their medical treatments are nearing completion, and they are learning what the good life is all about—being safe, loved, spoiled, and properly cared for.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve begun their spay and neuter surgeries, with the final couple scheduled for this coming week. We are so proud of how far they’ve come.

Most are doing well with housebreaking (still a work in progress 😅), and yes—true to the breed, they can be stubborn little bulldogs at times!
