🗞This diagram explains the mechanism of fever in a cow, especially in response to an infection like mastitis. 🐄

🧾Step-by-step Explanation:

1. Pathogen Entry (e.g., Mastitis)
- A pathogen causes mastitis (infection of the udder).
- This triggers the immune system to release pyrogenic cytokines (like IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α).

2. Cytokines Travel to Brain
- These cytokines enter the bloodstream and reach the hypothalamus in the brain.
- In parallel, sensory nerves from the warm receptors in the body (red line) carry signals to the
dorsal horn of the spinal cord and up to the brain.

3. Hypothalamic Response
- The cytokines stimulate PGE2 (Prostaglandin E2) production in the hypothalamus.
- PGE2 resets the body’s thermostat in the preoptic area (POA) and MnPO of the hypothalamus.

4. Fever Generation
- The brain now perceives the current body temperature as too low, and triggers heat-producing responses.
- Result: Fever is generated.

5. Effector Mechanisms to Reduce Heat
- Once infection is controlled or when cooling is needed, the body uses:
- Sweating (via sweat glands)
- Vasodilation (widening of blood vessels in skin)

🖋These are efferent pathways to dissipate heat and return body temperature to normal.

Bear Killed in Newton County Believed Responsible for Fatal Attack

Authorities in Newton County, AR, have killed a black bear suspected in last week’s fatal mauling of a Missouri man at Sam’s Throne campground. The bear was tracked by hounds and treed near the attack site. Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said it matched the victim’s photos and showed similar markings.

Wildlife officials noted that once a bear attacks a person they are more likely to repeat the behavior.

DNA testing is underway to confirm the match. The campground remains closed. This is Arkansas’s second fatal bear attack in a month.
