When I pull a cat or kitten from animal control, I know I am giving them a chance at life.
But what I wish more people understood is that walking out of the shelter does not mean the animal is suddenly healthy or safe.
These animals have been exposed to countless illnesses, viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungal infections. Some are already sick when they enter the shelter. Others may have been exposed while there, and there can be an incubation period after they leave where they still develop symptoms or break with an illness.
That is exactly what we are facing with Periwinkle.š
She left animal control alive.
She left with a chance.
But now she is battling a fungal infection and an upper respiratory infection (URI)āand our work is far from over.
This is one of the realities of rescue that people don't always see.
We don't just pull them.
We quarantine them. Treat them. Feed them. Medicate them. Take them to the vet. Clean. Disinfect. Monitor. Worry. Pray. Repeat.
And sometimes, after everything we've already put into saving them, another medical hurdle appears.
Periwinkle needs help getting back on the right track.š¾ā¤ļø
And honestly, I'm going to be vulnerable for a minute.
Rescue is HARD.
It's hard when you're constantly trying to save lives, constantly facing another emergency, another vet bill, another animal that needs youāand sometimes it feels like you're doing it alone.
Today, I just need financial help.
I need support.

Because sometimes, when rescue feels overwhelming, I need a reminder of why I started this in the first place.
And then I look at a little face like Periwinkle's.
She doesn't know about the bills.
She doesn't know about the shelter.
She doesn't know how many hurdles are still ahead.
She just knows that someone finally came for her - And I want to be that someone.
Help me make sure Periwinkle gets the chance she was promised when I pulled her to safety. ā¤ļøš¾
