When it comes to a dog, what is the perfect rescue? This is Honey Bear, a Golden Retriever. She is the perfect rescue. She weighed 46 #, had both sarcoptic and demodectic mange, yeast infection, intestinal parasites, and heartworms. Her skin was like leather and had a stench that stayed with you. To see such a beautiful and sweet soul in this condition was heartbreaking!
So why is a dog in this condition the perfect rescue? She received medical treatments, regular meals and healed. She was sweet as pie. Loved other animals and people.
She received dozens of adoption applications from across the United States. She ended up living in New Mexico and had another dog for a best friend and traveled daily to her new mommy's office. I visited her in New Mexico and she was living the life!
But rescue is not perfect, we are not perfect, dogs are not perfect. We do not rescue dogs that we feel will be the Perfect Rescue or ask ourselves "If we take it, will we be able to adopt it out?" We take in dogs that need help. The rest we will worry about later. Dogs that are plain, old, grumpy, unsociable, broken mentally and physically.
Please do not let these dogs be forgotten. Many do not find homes but they deserve to live and have a life with a regular meal and positive human contact without judgement.

January 2025 was the last time we had to post for food donations. Even though we have not had an abundance of food come in to fill our storage container, we have had a steady stream. However, that stream has dried out! Until something changes we need to ask for your help again.

Cherish Pupdate!
For those who don't know Cherish, she was found on a property incapacitated. It is unknown what happened. She was severely malnourished, having neurological issues and going in and out of consciousness.
Fast forward........
Unfortunately we have had a small setback. 😢 This past week we noticed she was walking stiff, not wanting to move around and was hyperextending her back right leg. She had just finished her meds for the tick born disease eurlichia so we were stumped as to why she was still having possible joint issues.
OFF TO THE VET WE GO!!!!
XRay is showing she has an old injury that was never addressed. You can see most of the ball on the hip is missing. There is no telling what happened or how long she has had to live with this! We have started her on glucosamine treats and pain management medication. It is helping as she is now a wiggle worm with lots of tail wags! We LOVE this girl!
Through my years of rescue, I had the privilege of rescuing two English Setters. Pepper was first and a few years after she passed, Frog came along. Both strays that were never claimed. I kept them both!
The Setter breed is the absolute sweetest! I can't imagine why someone would do this to her but we are seeing more and more neglect everyday. 💔
We are a 501c3 non profit. There is NO State funding, no paychecks, nothing but a mission started over 25 years ago to help animals. Any donation is lifesaving!

When you feel like someone is watching you. Two different trees on two different nights. They can be so obnoxious! But what a beautiful animal. Thank you God for the little blessings after long days of work. 🦝

After long ours at work, take a moment for yourself. Look around and find that blessing. From a cup of coffee, your favorite snack or just a nice memory.

Enjoy the moment and don't forget to hug your dog. 🐾
