Goldie is a sweet Rottweiler that went through previous training as a pup elsewhere and owners were really struggling with her.

She spent a couple weeks living with us and is now fully off lead and remote collar trained! And her reactivity was almost zero and engagement 100%!!!

So very true!!!

Stop holding onto that story. As hard as it may be, your rescue dog still needs training and it absolutely needs accountability for bad behavior.

I’ve worked with hundreds, if not thousands, of dog owners who are stuck struggling because they allow their dogs past to keep them there.

Whether your dog was rescued off the streets or bought from a breeder, they ALL need rules, structure, boundaries and training.

A sad backstory is not a free pass for aggression or other dangerous behavior. Sorry, not sorry. That’s just a fact.

Dogs don’t hold onto the past like that anyway. They live in the present and they deserve to live their best lives with their families.

If you’re holding back from stopping a certain behavior like explosive reactivity because your dog “is afraid of humans” you’re really doing your dog a major disservice.

You’re not teaching them how to get over this obstacle, and the byproduct of that is you BOTH become prisoners to a very small life.

Teach your dog how to overcome these issues and get out and enjoy life together.

Nothing good ever comes from hanging onto the past.

Work toward a better tomorrow together. Let go of the story. Train your dog. Start living.
