🐾 Let’s Talk Pet Dental Health: Why I Don't Offer "Teeth Scraping" 🦷
As your dog groomer, my top priority is always your pup's comfort, safety, and well-being. Because I care about your dogs like my own, I want to talk about a service you might see offered at some salons, but will never see on my menu: anesthesia-free teeth scraping.
While it might sound like an easy way to clean a dog's mouth, cosmetic scraping can actually do more harm than good. True dental cleanings should only be done by a licensed veterinarian.
Here is why I leave dental cleanings to the medical experts:
• The real problems are hidden: About 60% of a dog's tooth structure sits below the gumline. Cosmetic scraping only removes the visible tartar on top, leaving painful bacteria, infection, and root decay completely untouched underneath.
• High stress and injury risks: Scraping teeth requires sharp metal tools. Asking an awake pup to sit perfectly still for this is terrifying for them. One sudden wiggle can cause painful cuts to their sensitive gums.
• Scratched enamel: Without the professional medical polishing tools that vets use, scraping leaves microscopic scratches on the teeth. This actually makes it easier for new plaque and bacteria to attach and build up even faster.
• No X-rays: Only a vet clinic can take dental X-rays to check for hidden disease, abscesses, or bone loss.
How I help maintain your pup's smile:
While I can't provide medical dental procedures, I love helping you stay on top of daily maintenance! I offer a Teeth Brushing Add-On right here at the salon. Using pet-safe toothpaste and a gentle brush, I can help keep their breath fresh and slow down new plaque buildup between your routine vet visits.
If I ever notice severe tartar, heavy redness, or a broken tooth during a groom, I will always let you know so you can get it checked out by your vet! ❤️

Did you know that local backyard wildlife like squirrels, rabbits, and deer are the primary culprits for dropping flea eggs right into our yards and neighborhood walking paths? It’s true! They leave these tiny hitchhikers behind in the grass, just waiting for a passing pup to explore by.
Because places like trails, dog parks, and grooming salons are high-traffic pet zones, keeping your pup on a vet-approved flea preventative is the ultimate life hack for your wallet and your peace of mind. It acts like an invisible shield, ensuring your dog stays completely itch-free and comfortable no matter where they roam!
To keep our salon a guaranteed safe, clean haven for everyone, we do require all furry clients to be on a preventative.
Why we protect the space: If a pup accidentally arrives with hitchhikers, we have to immediately stop everything, drop our tools, and perform a rigorous decontamination to protect the next dogs in line. Because our salon is a boutique, home-based space, our cleaning fees are strictly based on the severity of the situation:
• The Single Hitchhiker ($45-$75): If we spot a stray live flea or minor flea dirt early on, this fee covers the immediate medical flea bath, extra laundry heat cycles, and a fast sanitation of the workstation and tub before the next pup arrives.
• The Severe Infestation ($150.00-$200): If a dog arrives heavily infested, it forces a complete salon shutdown. This fee covers the cost of specialized chemical treatments, heavy-duty ventilation, and compensates for the extreme labor of a full-day, hospital-grade deep clean after cancelling and rescheduling a whole day's schedule of appointments.
Staying on a monthly preventative is the easiest way to save your pup the itch, keep our community safe, and avoid those unexpected cleaning fees! Thank you for helping us keep the salon a clean, happy zone for all our furry friends! ❤️🐶

One thing people don’t always realize about grooming?

Sometimes the biggest accomplishment isn’t the haircut.
It’s building trust.

Not every dog walks into the salon confident and relaxed. Some are nervous about dryers. Some hate having their feet touched. Some had a bad experience somewhere else. Some are just puppies trying to figure out the world.

So a lot of grooming is actually about reading body language and helping dogs feel safe.

Sometimes that means slowing down.
Taking breaks.
Talking softly.
Changing our approach.
Or deciding that emotional comfort matters more than getting a “perfect” haircut that day.

Because the goal isn’t just getting through the appointment.
The goal is helping your dog learn that grooming doesn’t have to be scary.

And honestly, owners who consistently bring nervous dogs in — even when it’s hard — are doing something really important. Repeated calm experiences help dogs build confidence over time.

That patience and consistency truly matters more than you know.
