This month, we’re excited to introduce Menny, a sweet mare staying with us for her lay-up and rehabilitation journey!
Menny is recovering from a stifle arthroscopy. After receiving her surgery at a referral hospital, Menny came to Front Range Equine Performance to recover from her surgery and regain her strength before returning home.
Over the past several weeks, Menny’s journey has taken her from limited stall rest and monitored hand grazing to using our Equiband Pro System and daily hand walks. We are incredibly proud of her progress and the dedication shown by both Menny and her care team.
Menny’s individualized rehabilitation program includes:
Class IV Pegasus Laser Therapy – Promotes tissue healing, reduces inflammation, and supports recovery of deeper structures.
Dynamic Mobility Exercises – Enhance body awareness, posture, joint range of motion, and overall coordination.
SureFoot Stability Pads – To improve balance and enhance proprioception
Our team’s focus is not just on recovery, but on helping each horse build a strong foundation for their long-term health and performance. Menny has been a joy to work with, and her steady progress inspires everyone here at Front Range Equine Performance.

Our team had an absolutely wonderful time at our Christmas party at Casa Bonita last night! It was the perfect opportunity to step away from the barn, enjoy a festive evening together, and strengthen the bonds that make our team so special. From great food to plenty of laughter—and even a brief stint “behind bars”—the night was filled with memorable moments.

Thankfully, everyone managed to break out of jail, and we’re all back with our patients today, refreshed and ready for the holiday season!

Dr. Marshall-Gibson and Dr. Branecky enjoyed a productive and engaging experience at this year’s American Association of Equine Practitioners Convention in Denver. They were grateful for the opportunity to present on RenoVō and to share their success in treating soft-tissue injuries.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and contributed to the discussion. We are excited about the future of RenoVō in equine medicine.

Our entire Front Range Equine team appreciated the chance to connect with colleagues, and we look forward to next year’s convention!

How Do We Train Horses to the Water Treadmill?

Our priority is to introduce each horse to the water treadmill safely, comfortably, and at a pace that allows them to receive the maximum therapeutic and conditioning benefits.
During the training process, we:

• Have two trained technicians and one veterinarian present to ensure safety and proper guidance.
• Begin by introducing the treadmill without water, allowing the horse to walk through it several times to become familiar with the space.
• Progress to walking on the dry, moving treadmill so the horse can adjust to the motion.
• Gradually add water while the horse is walking, allowing them to acclimate at a comfortable pace.
• Adjust the water level to suit the horse’s individual therapeutic or conditioning needs.

If necessary, our veterinarians may administer light sedation during the initial training sessions to ensure the safety of both the horse and handlers. Our long-term goal is always to progress each horse to the point where they can participate confidently without sedation.

For more information about our water treadmill training packages, please reach out to our rehabilitation barn at (970) 888-2066 or [email protected]

Rehabilitation Thursday: What is TENS Therapy?
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a safe, non-invasive and drug-free therapy that can be used to reduce both acute and chronic pain. When using the TENS unit, electrodes are placed at specific sites based upon the location of the pain. A low intensity electrical current is then passed through the electrode to the skin, causing a tingling or massaging sensation. This helps to reduce the perception of pain by flooding the nervous system, reducing its ability to transmit pain signals to the spinal cord and brain while also causing a release of endorphins to act as a natural pain reliever.
Some things the TENS unit can be used to treat include post-operative pain, osteoarthritis, chronic musculoskeletal pain, and neuropathic pain.
For any questions regarding our TENS unit, or if you are interested in a session for your horse, please reach out to our office at (970) 368-3125 or [email protected] for more information!

Happy Sports Medicine Sunday! Today we are diving into the power of ultrasound for injury diagnosis. Diagnostic ultrasonography is a non-invasive, painless method used to identify and monitor soft tissue problems and to examine tendons, ligaments and muscles often related to lameness. It is often used in conjunction with other diagnostics to identify the root cause of a presenting concern.

In addition to diagnosis of the initial presenting concern, sequential (time-lapse) imaging is used to evaluate the progress of treatments over time, and is very useful in monitoring healing in musculoskeletal or soft tissue injuries so that controlled exercise can be accurately implemented. Ultrasonographic evaluation helps to characterize and document the size, shape, echogenicity (brightness) and fiber pattern of soft tissue. Ultrasound is also used to evaluate bony surfaces of regions that can not be otherwise imaged.

Front Range Equine’s portable ultrasound enables us to perform complete exams in the field and to archive or share the images with referring veterinarians and clients through wireless Internet.

Ultrasound is also often used in conjunction with critical injections or therapies, such as PRP, to more accurately deliver the therapy to the target area.

Important Announcement Regarding EHV-1 Precautions

In response to the recent EHV-1 outbreak, we have implemented enhanced biosecurity measures to protect the health and safety of all horses in our care. As of last week, the following precautions have been and will continue to be in place:
– Sanitation of Equipment: All equipment will be thoroughly sanitized between appointments to prevent any potential transmission.
– Hand Hygiene: Our team will be washing and disinfecting hands between every patient interaction.
– Temporary Suspension of Haul-Ins: We will not be permitting any haul-ins for a minimum the next two weeks. After two weeks we will re-evaluate. Thank you for your understanding as we work to minimize risk.
– Restricted Foot Traffic: Access to our rehab barn will be limited in order to maintain a controlled and safe environment.
– Temporary Pause on New Rehab Patients: At this time, we are not accepting any new rehab patients. This pause allows us to reduce barn traffic and maintain the strictest possible biosecurity standards during the outbreak.
– All horses on the Front Range Equine Performance property are vaccinated for EHV-1.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience as we take these necessary steps. The health and well-being of our horses and clients remain our top priority.
For more up-to-date information about the EHV-1 outbreak, please follow Equine Disease Communication Center or Front Range Equine Urgent Care
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

It’s Sports Medicine Sunday! 🐴💉
This week we’re highlighting Mesotherapy, a proven pain management treatment that’s been helping horses feel and perform their best for years.

Mesotherapy targets chronic neck and back pain—common contributors to many lameness issues. It involves a series of tiny injections (just 4–6 mm under the skin) that deliver pain-blocking agents right where they’re needed most.

Many horses show improved comfort and reduced reactivity within 24–48 hours, and it can be used alongside other therapies like chiropractic care, acupuncture, shockwave therapy, or joint injections to maximize results.
