Take a moment and read this. 😭 Spay and Neuter your pets. He fought and he found love in the end.
To the Person Responsible for Solider's Life:
You failed. He counted on you to care for him, to give him security and warmth and a full belly. You did none of those things. He was left to fend for himself. He was left to nearly starve to death. He was left out in the hot summer heat, and I imagine the cold winter nights. He was left vulnerable to countless dangers. His frail body that had grown so weak he could no longer defend himself to those dangers, including animal attacks and passing cars. His open wounds were eaten away at by flies until they were filled with maggots. Fleas were biting incessantly at his flesh. Yet you didn't care. You didn't bring him in for safety. You didn't tend to his wounds. You left him alone. And that is not okay. THIS is how horribly he suffered: https://youtu.be/W6p68oW2GLY We picked up the pieces for you. We gave him a name worthy of such a brave boy. We are the ones who held him in our arms. We are the ones who wept for the suffering he had endured. We are the ones who gave him all the things he likely never had. But our help came too late. Soldier's battle came to an end despite our every effort to save his life. He was too weak to continue to fight. They were our tears who fell over him as he drifted away from this life that had been so cruel to him. Though he didn't matter to you, he mattered to us. His life mattered. His soul matters. His ashes will be returned to us for safe keeping. He may not have been given dignity in life, but we will make damn sure he has it now. You failed him, and he paid with his life in a most horrific way. He deserved better. It is our hope he felt the love we had for him in his final battle.
To anyone who thinks it's okay to allow cats to roam free, to breed and bring lives into this world irresponsibly, think of Soldier. Is that the kind of life you want to give them? One un-spayed female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 kittens in seven years. If you can't be responsible for that many, then don't have a pet you aren't willing to properly care for. An estimated 70 million cats are homeless in the U.S. alone. 70 million Soldiers fighting to survive. Allowing your cat to go unspayed or unneutered means you are adding to the pet overpopulation crisis. Be a responsible pet owner, spay and neuter. Only 2% of cats entering shelters are reunited with their owners, and the national statistics show that the percentage of cats euthanized in shelters is a staggering 70%. Please, be part of the solution, don't add to the problem. SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS. Keep them safe, keep them healthy, and give them the life they deserve. Do it in honor of Soldier.
To everyone who donated for Solider's care, we are humbled and grateful for your love for him. We whispered in his ear that countless people were sending him their love. We are sure he knew in his final moments that we were all fighting for him. Please stand alongside us as we continue to fight for others like Soldier who need a chance.
FLY FREE WITH THE ANGELS, SWEET SOLDIER. You fought a brave fight.
