Sometimes as a homeschool mom, I worry my kids are missing out.

One of the first questions people always ask is, “But what about socialization?” And to that I gently say — not all socialization is good socialization. We send our kids off for eight hours a day to be around people we don’t even know. Do they share our values? Do they encourage the kind of character we’re trying to build at home?

But that’s not even really what this post is about.

The truth is, sometimes *I* get in my head. I worry they’ll miss out on sports. On activities. On little traditions.

This week it was Valentine’s Day. I had that quiet, ugly thought creep in — “Man… my kids won’t get to give or receive valentines.”

And almost as soon as that thought settled in, our amazing umbrella group, Peaceful Homeschoolers, sent out an email about a Valentine’s exchange. 🩷

It was such a simple reminder: for every “downside” I can think of, there are a thousand positives waiting right behind it.

Homeschooling isn’t about isolation. It’s about intention. And sometimes God answers the worry before it even fully forms.

Just a little encouragement for any other homeschool mom who sometimes wonders if she’s getting it right. You are. 💛

Leading up to the halftime show, I saw so many people tearing Kid Rock apart for who he used to be. The music he used to sing. The life he used to live.

Jesus already paid the price for our sins. It is finished. Repentance and forgiveness are the backbone of Christianity.

But that’s the beauty of walking with God —
your past doesn’t get the final say.

I loved his performance. He came out wild, loud, chaotic — the way the world expects. Jumping around, acting crazy, didn’t even look like he was taking it seriously.

Then the curtain closed.

The music softened.

And out walked Robert Ritchie.

Not a persona. Not a character. A man.

And he sang “’Til You Can’t” — but with a message that hit different:

“There's a book sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off - There's a man that died for all our sins hanging from the cross - You can give your life to Jesus and He’ll give you a second chance…
’Til you can’t.”

That’s the Gospel.

That’s redemption.

That’s grace.

God doesn’t call the perfect — He transforms the willing.

And a testimony will always be louder than a past.

What a powerful reminder that it’s never too late… until it is.

**✨ What a powerful night at the Grammys! ✨** (I havent watched in years, but i saw the highlights)

I’ve been thinking a lot about *Brandon Lake* and *Jelly Roll* and how they used their acceptance speeches to point people to Jesus — not just for applause, but to spread the good news with genuine gratitude and boldness. 🙌🏽

In a world that often celebrates fame and success on its own terms, it was refreshing to hear two artists give glory to the One who truly matters. Their words weren’t just affirmations of achievement, but reminders that every blessing is from above and every step of faith is worth celebrating.

💛 **Hard Fought Heartfelt Hallelujah** — what a title and what a message. This song isn’t just a tune you listen to — it’s a story you feel. It speaks to the reality of walking with God through trials, choices, courage, and surrender. A *hallelujah* that was *hard fought* is a testament to endurance, to wrestling through doubts and battles, and to holding on to God when the world tries to pull you away.

Our pastor recently preached about **guarding your faith** — and this is exactly what God calls each of us to do. Not a casual belief — but a deep, intentional pursuit. A faith that stands firm when life gets messy, when voices discourage, and when comfort tempts us to stray.

⭐ I hope more believers — especially those in the spotlight — continue to be brave with their testimony. The world needs to see that success isn’t empty when it’s rooted in Christ. That joy isn’t shallow when it’s anchored in heaven. That a *hallelujah truly worth shouting* is one that’s been fought for.

Let’s keep praying for bold voices, bold hearts, and a church that shines even brighter in times of challenge. ✨

Driving across the Bay Bridge today and for the FIRST TIME in my almost 40 years… I saw the bay iced over. Not all of it, but enough to make me question every life choice that led me to this frozen tundra moment.

Like… excuse me?? Is this the Arctic now?? Do I need a sled team?? Where are the penguins??

PHIL.
SIR.

You had **ONE JOB.**
One. Tiny. Responsibility.
Do. Not. See. Your. Shadow.

We asked for early spring. We begged. We believed in you.
And now the bay is turning into a popsicle and my trust issues are thriving. 😭❄️

People ask me all the time about the *pros and cons* of homeschooling.

I keep trying to come up with a long “con” list… and honestly, the only real downside I’ve found is the extra work for **me**. And even that is completely worth it.

After seeing a **private school in Minnesota** take kindergarteners to a protest, I felt even more confident in our decision. The world is ugly enough — childhood should be protected, not politicized. Their innocence is precious, and I don’t want outside agendas, social pressures, or personal beliefs shaping my kids before they’re even old enough to process it.

That responsibility is mine.

The pros of homeschooling outweigh the cons by about 99%.

✨ I get to teach faith and values — the foundation of everything, including about Jesus.
✨ My kids learn in the comfort and safety of home.
✨ We move at the pace that works for **them**, not a classroom schedule.
✨ Learning can be hands-on, flexible, and actually enjoyable.
✨Field trips, anytime, anywhere. (We are currently in route to the DC spy muesuem! ✨Outside the box (or in it in armour) thinking
✨ They aren’t expected to sit still for 8 hours a day — because what 5-year-old is built for that? (Honestly, I’m not either.)

People always say, “But what about socialization?” My question is — is all school socialization *positive*? Kids are exposed to things, conversations, and influences they have no business carrying at such a young age. Socialization should build them up, not rush them into grown-up issues.

Homeschooling isn’t the easy road, but it’s the right one for our family. More time together. More influence over what shapes their hearts and minds. More childhood.

And that’s a trade I’ll make every time. ❤️

If you can homeschool, do it. I promise you wont regret It

Alright Phil.
Respectfully… get it together.

Tomorrow is NOT the day for shadow-seeing behavior. We are not doing six more weeks of this. The vibes are off. The wind hurts. The air hurts. My bank account hurts. Places that normally just get “a little chilly” are out here looking like Antarctica with Walmarts.

People are slipping. Pipes are bursting. Animals are judging us. Everyone owns exactly one pair of “good gloves” and we can’t find them. THIS HAS GONE FAR ENOUGH.

So when you waddle out there tomorrow, you better:
✨ keep your eyes up
✨ mind your business
✨ and pretend shadows don’t exist

We are requesting — no, DEMANDING — early spring. Birds chirping. Mud. Allergies. I’ll take it.

Don’t play with us, Phil.
Society is hanging on by a thermal thread. 🌷

Oof, that internal battle is REAL. The couch is warm, the coffee is hot, and your brain is like, “Surely the goats can DoorDash breakfast today.” 😭

But then there’s the other voice — the farm voice —
“They depend on you. Also if you don’t go now the water will be more frozen, the wind will be worse, and you’ll be madder later.”

Winter chore math is brutal:
**Minutes in the house:** cozy, denial, bargaining.
**Minutes outside:** betrayal, wind in places wind should never be, questioning life choices.
**Minutes after you come back in:** weirdly proud pioneer woman energy. 💪

Also let’s be honest — you’re not just “feeding animals.”
You are:
• ice breaker
• hay distributor
• emotional support human
• CEO of Keeping Things Alive in Stupid Weather

You don’t *want* to go out. Nobody does. But you always do it anyway — and that’s the gritty, unseen kind of tough people don’t talk about enough.

Throw on the layers, do the speed run version, promise yourself a hot drink after, and channel that “I pay the feed bill, I run this place” energy.

Future You, back inside and thawing out, is already proud of Current You.

Dear **Phil the Groundhog**,

Buddy. Friend. Legend.

This is your year to **NOT** see your shadow. I repeat — DO. NOT. SEE. IT.

Our electric bill was supposed to be *around* $750 this month. Cute, right?
It came in at **$950**.
And next month is already pacing for **$1,200** like it’s training for a marathon.

The ice troughs are frozen.
The heaters are working overtime.
And the tortoise enclosure said, “I’m doing my best,” but clearly… it is not.

We had to bring our old lady Leo inside like the retired queen she is, because this cold is not farm-girl tough — it’s *rude*.

Phil, I am tired.
The animals are tired.
My wallet is tired.

We are officially voting for:
☀️ Mud season
☀️ Chores without 14 layers
☀️ Water that flows instead of crunches
☀️ Maybe some land down south where winter is just a rumor

So Monday, sir, you squint. You blink. You pretend.
But you **do not** see that shadow.

Sincerely,
Every farmer, homesteader, and person who just paid a heating bill and had to sit down after.
