He really thrives when he’s near his people, especially when he’s feeling unsure. He is easy to walk and loves his time spent out and about with his people. Vannak dreams of a forever home where he can relax, snuggle up, and know he’s finally in a place that’s all his own. With a little patience and a lot of love, he’ll blossom into the amazing companion he’s meant to be.

Here is an update from BACS Alum and Certified House Hippo Boba!

"This is Boba, formerly Koba! We adopted her in June 2019. Many things are the same from when we first got her; she loves naps and bananas. She still loves her walks, but she now lazily strolls through the neighborhood at 1 m.p.h.

During the 6 years we have had her she has surprised us with her ability to learn new things such as jump on command (year 3) pawing to signal what she wants (year 5) and climbing on the kitchen table to devour a bag of treats and opening her treat cabinet (year 6)

We’re so thankful for the support from BACS, especially the lessons from BAD RAP that we dutifully attended to learn how to walk a reactive dog."

Bark (& Meow) Around the Block is back!
The Bay Areas biggest adopt-a-thon and family-friendly street fair returns on Saturday, August 23, 2025 10am-4pm! BACS will have a booth with adoptable dogs on site to meet!

This outdoor, free-to-attend event at 2700 Ninth St. Berkeley features hundreds of adoptable animals from shelters and rescues throughout the Bay Area, along with music, food and beer, pet and other vendors, and so much more.

They call me Monterey! I've lived at Berkeley Animal Care Services for over 50 days. The staff and volunteers say I'm a really good girl. All I need to do now is find my forever home!

Here is an update from BACS alum and Very Good Boy Rambo, formerly known as Achilles!

"He's adjusting very well, and was excited to meet his new family since day 1. We thought we were adopting a dog but he's actually closer to a honey glazed ham, behavior wise. That all changes when it's feeding time and treat time, where he becomes lightning quick and agile. Aside from his twice a day walks, he can be found sleeping on the couch. We're working our way thru all the doggo classics, starting with Air Bud (see basketball highlights tape) and finishing at Balto.

He has learned his new name, sit, lay down, and to go into his crate in just 3 days. And captured the hearts of his family and immediate neighbors, getting showered with compliments wherever we go. Overall 100/10 new best friend. 🥺"

Look who’s still available!!! 🥰👀
It’s our mellow, ping-pong-playing, big blue boy — Malombe! 💙

When Malombe arrived at the shelter, our vet team discovered that his eyelids were curving inward against his corneas (a condition called entropion). Thanks to corrective surgery, he’s now feeling so much better — and he’s ready to find his new home!
