The Benefits of Owning A Pet!!

Here are some of the ways owning a pet can boost your physical and mental health:

Studies show that pet ownership (especially dog ownership) can boost your cardiovascular health and has been linked to lowering blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and may reduce your risk of heart disease.

Since dogs require regular exercise they encourage their owners to increase their own physical activity.

Pets offer unconditional love which can improve your mental health especially when you are going through difficult or uncertain times.

Simply petting an animal can lower your stress levels by decreasing your level of stress hormones and increase the release of serotonin and dopamine.

I believe that every effort to keep people and their pets together is one of the most important missions I can undertake.

CONSIDER THIS ..... From Janet Cain and Janet Fine Art

I wanted to share a story with you today that has impacted me for the past couple of years and has now dictated my journey in 2026 with my non profit and art career.

At the end of 2023 I was in the process of finalizing my pet retirement home and rescue when I received a late night call from a stranger.

She had been getting gas in Lexington Kentucky and saw a young woman with a dog huddled between two vending machines trying to get out of the cold and rain. Upon speaking with her, she found out that her abusive husband had crossed over state lines and dropped her and the dog off without any money and then drove off leaving them to fend for themselves.

This kind stranger had somehow heard about my plans to open my facility to help people in temporary need of pet care and made the call to me. The woman was refusing to go to a shelter as they would not allow her to take her dog. I was not in a position to help out at that time and it haunts me to this day.

In 2026 I will be striving to build a small facility that can accept dogs or cats for people in need of temporary help during their particular situation and time of need.

As we gear up for an exciting and busy 2026 I have many new plans for special artwork and collectibles specifically for my non-profit pet retirement home and rescue.

My "Until We Meet Again" pet retirement home and rescue update

When I opened up my non-profit in September 2023 phase one was geared towards the dogs. We designed different safe areas outside for the resident dogs to enjoy.

As a professional dog trainer for more than 35 years, I knew the importance of fresh air, exercise, stimulating dogs to learn and grow and enjoy life safely. My term,"Doggy Speed Dating", was created to allow them to be moved around to different areas outside and experience new sights, sounds and smells while being safe and protected.

Now that I have started Phase two this year, I am creating this same idea called "Cat Speed Dating". I just rescued 4 kittens this summer and wanted them to be indoor cats. Knowing the importance of fresh air, exercise and stimulation I just completed the first of what will be many caticos (cat patios), that allow them to be outside safely. Accessed from inside my home they simply go out one of my windows into the catico where they are safe and secure.

Here are a couple of photos I took this afternoon of their first time outside. Of course Joey the pug was most intrigued by the whole adventure and sat and watched them the whole time.
