Meeting your dog’s needs might be simpler than you think! Store-bought enrichment can be super helpful, but it doesn’t replace sniffing and exploring outdoors. Structured leash walks are important for 21st-century dogs, but they don’t replace running, playing, and chasing. Whether you’re addressing problem behaviors or just want to be the best human for your dog, start by getting outside (safely!) and letting them enjoy being a dog! 🐾 🍃

If walking is stressful for you and/or your dog, or you feel like you’re constantly throwing puzzle toys at them to keep them busy, let’s find some activities that are truly enjoyable and fulfilling for you both! Of course, don’t hog the playground if there are kids around, don’t bring your reactive dog into a busy store, don’t expect your elderly dog to keep up with your bike, etc. Want more ideas? I have so many!

Many of my lessons include some portion of quiet observation, neutrality, and settling work. Sometimes this is my time to multitask- send a video or message to a client, make notes, etc. Other times, I use it as my own opportunity to settle. To take a few deep breaths, feel the breeze and the sun, notice the birds, and truly bask in the company of these dogs that I love so much.

If I can give you one training tip today: pause, notice, and enjoy the journey 🫶🏻🐾
