All species are susceptible to moldy sweet clover poisoning, but most instances occur in cattle and, to a limited extent, sheep, pigs, and horses. Eating the moldy hay causes clotting/bleeding problems and can affect pregnancy. Weathered, large, round hay bales, particularly the outer portions, usually contain the highest concentrations of the toxin, dicumarol.
