Hello, continuing our Saturday spotlight today we are introducing Makenzie one of our new assistants.

It’s no surprise her favorite animals to work with are cats! At home, she has six pets — Zeppelin, Eleven, Stella, OJ, W***y, and Vader — who keep her happily busy. If she had to compare herself to an animal, she’d pick a fox for her adaptability, quick wit, and intuition.

One fun fact? She’s been to an incredible 138 shows ranging from Metallica and Paul McCartney to Billie Eilish! Makenzie is one of the technicians taking care of your babies in the back. She can frequently be seen carrying a tiny animal around, or saying hi to every individual babe we have that day! Her sensitivity and compassion for animals is treasured here.

Tech Tip Thursday: Keep Your Pets Cool This Summer ☀️🐾

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke in pets. Unlike humans, dogs and cats can't efficiently cool themselves by sweating, making them especially vulnerable to overheating.

Watch for these warning signs:
- Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
- Lethargy or weakness
- Excessive drooling
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Disorientation, stumbling, or collapse
- Bright red gums or tongue

Prevention Tips:
- Always provide fresh, cool water
- Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
- Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
- Provide shade when outdoors
- Never leave pets in parked vehicles—even for a few minutes

If you suspect your pet is overheating:
Move them to a cool area immediately, offer small amounts of water, and contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital right away. Cooling should begin immediately, but professional medical care is often still necessary.

If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your pet's paws!

We wanted to welcome Dr. David Lindsey, he may have started with us last week but we are thrilled to have him join our team.

Dr. David Lindsey grew up near Sacramento in Northern California. His love for animals began at an early age, growing up with a yellow Labrador Retriever and caring for a variety of reptiles, including leopard geckos, crested geckos, and a tokay gecko. From a young age, he knew veterinary medicine was the career he wanted to pursue.

He earned his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, before moving to Arizona to attend Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Lindsey graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in June 2022 and began his professional career at a hospital in Arizona, where he practiced for two years before moving to Kansas.

Dr. Lindsey has a strong professional interest in soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, dental care, and rehabilitation and physical therapy. He enjoys helping pets regain comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life through comprehensive treatment plans tailored to their needs.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Lindsey enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. He can often be found at the gym, playing sports, coaching, watching movies, or enjoying time with friends and family.

🐶🐱 Signs your pet loves you 💛

The tail wags when you walk in.
The slow blinks.
The cuddles.
The little moments that say “you’re my person.” 🫶

Pets may not use words, but they show love in the sweetest ways every single day. 🐾✨

Cats may not speak human… but honestly, they have a LOT to say. 🐱✨

A slow blink?
That’s basically a kitty kiss. 💛

A loud purr?
Their way of saying, “This is nice. Don’t move.” 🐾

A flicking tail?
You’re probably one second away from being judged. 😼

And rubbing against your legs?
Congratulations — you’ve officially been claimed by a tiny furry boss.

The funny little habits, dramatic expressions, and chaotic zoomies are all part of their language. And the more we understand them, the closer our bond becomes. ✨

Because sometimes “I love you” sounds a lot like meow.
