When it comes to planning time away from home, worrying about your pets' care can be the most stressful part. Many dogs experience anxiety and overwhelm when left at a boarding facility, and cats can become scared and confused when left alone at home for days. If you live on a farm, the planning for animal care is even more daunting.

I don't share posts very often, but when you love goats...☺️

When I was 8 years old, my family moved from the city to a little farm in Northern Minnesota. Soon, we had several chickens, a couple pigs, sheep...and goats! 🐐The goats were my favorite, one in particular, Razzmatazz.

Razz was a few years old when she came to our farm. I'm not sure how she ended up with such a unique name, but it really seemed to fit her! She was a beautiful Saanan, with one eye that was severely damaged from a de-horning accident. To me though, she was absolutely perfect and she became my best friend.

Minnesota winters are anything but easy! Many days it was 30° below zero and the snow stayed piled high until May. ❄️ Every morning I would bundle up in layers, and head out to make sure everyone was cared for before going to school, then again every evening. Sometimes my mom or dad were out with me, many times it was just me.

I loved those moments in the barn with all the animals, even when I felt so cold I was sure my toes and fingers were going to fall off. They were always so happy to see me, and I felt like they gave me more than I could ever give them.

Razz was always there to lend an ear when I was having a hard day, and her neck when I needed a hug. She had a way of making every day seem brighter, and every worry feel like a distant memory. I remember running from the school bus to the barn every afternoon to greet her.

She went on to win several trophies at the county fair, including a first place win that took us all the way to the State Fair. 🏆

All these years later, I have so many memories of her that are still so vivid. She brought so much joy and humor to my life, and helped me see the world with more optimism. That's the special kind of gift that animals share with us, the kind that you never forget.

🐾 Living with a reactive dog, or a dog who has separation anxiety, can be really stressful, for both you and your pup. It can make leaving the house or traveling with them feel nearly impossible, and add to their tension and fear.

I know because my husband and I have two amazing dogs in our family, who also happened to be reactive when we adopted them. Willow and Bear have improved so much with a lot of time, training, love and patience, but it is still a challenge sometimes. I understand how much reactivity, or separation anxiety, can control your life.

This experience helps when working with dogs who may require extra care and understanding, and I would love to help you and your pup when you have to be away from home! We can schedule a meet and greet ahead of time, at no cost, to see how your pup does and make sure that you are both comfortable.
