Remember the little abandoned sugar glider we got through the county? This little one was abandoned lose and alone in an apartment "for a long time" after her owners moved away 🤬.
When "Sugar" came to us, she was traumatized and had not been socialized. We bought her a large habitat and filled it with toys and pouches to sleep in. Her foster, Tracy, has been patiently working with her to build her confidence. At first, she was terrified and did not want to be seen, so she only came out of her pouch to eat when no one was around. it took a couple of months, but now she comes out of her pouch and takes treats from human hands. She plays with toys and runs on her wheel. She is ready for someone to start bonding with her and handling her!
We were hopeful to find another sugar glider who was a single and needed to be paired up with someone, but what we found instead is that the sugar glider world has a lot of scammers, who want you to pay and then they'll mail you a sugar glider 🙄🙄🙄.
Sugar gliders should always be in a pair or a colony. as singles, they become very depressed. Sugar is a young adult female, so she needs to be paired with either another female, or a neutered male (yes, sugar gliders are neutered), or ideally, she could be integrated into a colony.
We will ONLY adopt Sugar to a home with another potential companion sugar glider. If it's someone who is just starting out, we can include her habitat and toys/pouches, etc.
If you are interested in adopting Sugar and can meet our criteria for her, please DM for more information. Portland Metro area only please.
