You've heard me say this a million times because it's true and can actually save your dogs life. Dogs don't understand if things are digestible or not. If you are not around to stop them from eating objects then they will do as they please. Ingesting objects can be a life or death situation. If caught in time it usually costs a fortune to have the object surgically removed from their digestive tract.
In the case of an emergency (car accident, natural disaster, medical emergency, etc) your dog will most likely be crated to keep everyone safe. Even at the groomers your dog is crated before or after their appointment. If your dog has never been introduced to crate until these situations they'll be so confused and stressed.
Keep your dog safe and crate train them. Not every dog needs to be crated every day but every dog should understand that a crate is a safe space. It's not too late to crate train either.
