🎉 October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month — and we’re shining a light on one of the most misunderstood and lovable breeds out there. 🐶
🐾 These blocky-headed sweethearts face unfair treatment in shelters and rescues simply because of negative stereotypes — often based on sensationalized stories involving other dogs — rather than being evaluated for their unique personalities and behavior.
💙 Sadly, this bias has real consequences. Many of these gentle “North American House Hippos” (aka Pit Bulls!) just want a cozy place to snooze, but end up stuck in shelters longer due to outdated housing rules and breed restrictions.
🦴Any dog can pose a risk if they aren’t properly trained, socialized, or supervised. The safest and kindest approach is to judge each dog as an individual — not by assumptions tied to their breed.
✨ So, if you’re searching for a medium-sized snuggle buddy who’s equally down for a Netflix binge or a hiking trip, a Pit Bull might be the perfect addition to your family.

Lend A Paw LLC was started by Lauren Swartley in 2018 with the purpose of giving potential adopters a helping hand. After adopting multiple pets with anxiety and figuring out that finding care for them was becoming increasingly difficult, she decided to use her knowledge of rescue to help others in need. Specializing in pets with anxiety and fear-based issues, Lend A Paw provides in-home care to minimize stress on your pets. All pets are welcome, and we do not discriminate against any breeds.
